My updates

Day 31

Sunday 31st May
Blue skies one minute, heavy rain the next for my stroll around the botanic gardens and Stockbridge markets. The final day of the challenge and I met my target of 250 miles! Very happy!

Day 30

Saturday 30th May
Not feeling 100% but managed a lunchtime loop of Beecraigs Country Park including little Cockleroy Hill, totalling 5 miles. Wet and very muggy!

Day 29

Friday 29th May
A busy day at work so hit 8 miles easily! Wet and gloomy for most of the day but the sun is trying to come back out now... so fingers crossed for the final weekend of the challenge.

Day 28

Thursday 28th May
Making the most of this sunshine whilst it lasts! Princes Street Gardens made for a busy but pretty detour on my way home and another 7 miles added.

Day 27

Wednesday 27th May
Not many steps at work today so I detoured via Stockbridge on the way home to hit my 7 miles. A lovely stroll past Inverleith pond, a bit of window shopping and a visit to the much-photographed Circus Lane!

Day 26

Tuesday 26th May
The heatwave continues! Fortunately, I spent most of the day in an air-conditioned lab though I had to go for a short lunchtime walk to soak up the vitamin D! Lunch al fresco in the gardens of St Ninians in Comely Bank (pictured) and another 8 miles added.

Day 25

Monday 25th May
A glorious day off work! Had originally planned a big hill walk but decided it was a little too hot for that... so Dan and I did an 8 mile loop from Coldingham Bay to St Abbs Head. A lovely picnic with this view!

Day 24

Sunday 24th May
Joined Dan at the driving range for the first time today! 100 balls sent in all directions but fortunately nothing too embarrassing. Plus an evening walk in the sunshine for a total of 5 miles.

Day 23

Saturday 23rd May
Over 2 hours in the (thankfully air-conditioned) dance studio for today's tango workshop! One of my favourites. Followed by a loop of Holyrood Park with views across Edinburgh to the Pentlands, for a total of 10 miles.

Day 22

Friday 22nd May
No coat needed today - 18oC and sunshine for my 7 miles! Here is a photo of St Mary's Cathedral from this morning's walk. Ready for a long weekend, with more miles of course.

Day 21

Thursday 21st May
Another busy day at work followed by a thankfully calm journey home (even bagged a window seat for this view!). A steady 7 miles added.

Day 20

Wednesday 20th May
The sun coming out over Fettes College, just in time for my walk back to Haymarket... which was a total zoo tonight! A long, tiring day but hit my 7 miles.

Day 19

Tuesday 19th May
A wet trudge to/from work again but seeing this book exchange always makes me smile. Newly filled up too! 8 miles added plus a challenging yoga session.

Day 18

Monday 18th May
A filthy sky over Edinburgh's West End! A wet and humid 7 miles to/from work today. At least I got my sun fix on Saturday!

Day 17

Sunday 17th May
After a late night (watching golf this year rather than eurovision!), a much-needed chill day today. Board games, reading and jigsaws... I was a total vegetable! Feeling rested and ready for work and more miles tomorrow though.

Day 15

Saturday 16th May
Five years after walking the first stage, finally walked the sixth and final section of the Fife Pilgrim Way! Glorious sunshine for Ceres to St Andrews, with rolling countryside, historic ruins and a beach to finish! 14 miles added.

Day 15

Friday 15th May
Melville Street looking great today - I love how quiet Edinburgh is on friday mornings! An easy 7 miles added.

Day 14

Thursday 14th May
Sun, wind, rain, hail and repeat! A wet and wild commute today but hit my daily target of 7 miles. I'm also halfway to my overall target of 250 miles!

Day 13

Wednesday 13th May
Successfully dodging the showers today! I seem to be consistently adding about 7 miles on a work day, which is not bad... but hoping the sun holds out for a proper weekend hike!

Day 12

Tuesday 12th May
The pretty approach to Fettes College at about 7.30 this morning. Another 7 miles added - not bad considering I spent the whole morning at my desk! - and more evening yoga.

Day 11

Monday 11th May
The sunshine continues! Enjoying the blue skies on my 7 miles to/from work today. Continuing with yoga camp tonight after a week's break - will be good to stretch out those tired legs!

Day 10

Sunday 10th May
A chilled day but hit 100 miles in total! Back to work tomorrow but hopefully I can still add a few more miles this week.

Day 9

Saturday 9th May
Another 9 miles added! A combination of housework(!), a lunchtime loop around the local reservoir and walking into the centre this evening to see The Devil Wears Prada 2!

Day 8

Friday 8th May
Last day of my holiday but squeezed in 9 miles around Tarbert (Loch Fyne) on the way home. Fishing boats, forest trails and even a castle!

Day 7

Thursday 7th May
A day of bus-hopping and beach-hopping, with short walks at Saddell, Carradale and Machrihanish totalling 12 miles. All amazing but the highlight was watching this otter and her cub!

Day 6

Wednesday 6th May
13 miles today on the beautiful Isle of Gigha! White sandy beaches, turquoise water, pretty gardens and fab views to Islay & Jura. I will definitely be back!

Day 5

Tuesday 5th May
30 miles by train, 140 miles by coach, 14.5 miles on foot! Exploring Campbeltown and Davaar Island today.

Day 4

Monday 4th May
12 miles with Kate, walking from Arnside to Silverdale, a designated AONB. Cool limestone formations, woodlands and coastal views with some sunshine too!

Day 3

Sunday 3rd May
13.21 miles with Kate! Had a great day exploring the quirky town of Ulverston, including walks up Hoad Hill (pictured) and along the canal.

Day 2

Saturday 2nd May
A day of watching other people being sporty at Roses 2026 but still managed 6.15 miles. Cheering Kate onto victory in her rugby game and Lancaster looks set to defeat York for the fifth year in a row! #RosesAreRed

Day 1

Friday 1st May
7.3 miles to/from/around work. Best part of my route is crossing Dean Bridge - here's the stormy view on the way home today.
