Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Nine months ago, at the age of 57, I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease.Ā With hindsight I should have expected the diagnosis - but I didn't.Ā Ā I think it is fair to say that it came as a bit of a shock.Ā My NHS neurologist is lovely but I left that appointment with a prescription and nothing else.Ā If I hadn't found Parkinson's UK, and if they hadn't been as amazing as they are, I think Richard would still be picking up the pieces of me.
It was Parkinson's UK who helped when I was having severe side effects to the medication, who informed me that dedicated Parkinson's Nurses existed and encouraged me to get in touch, and who helped me find local support groups.Ā Ā
Iām walking to help fund specialist Parkinsonās care to thousands more people who urgently need it.Ā Every twenty minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.Ā Ā
Thousands of us are uniting to help people with Parkinsonās, and those who love and care for them, get access to the support they need.
