Pedal Wye Valley 2025

Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I'm taking part in Pedal Wye Valley for Parkinson’s UK this September and would appreciate your support!

Please help by sponsoring my cycling challenge to mark my 70th Birthday in October. I aim to complete the 24.8 miles and 1,938ft elevation in a respectable time on my trusty steed Lancashire Lizzie. All the money raised will go to Parkinson’s UK's work in support of their UK wide physical activity and exercise programmes with the aim of helping people with Parkinson's get active and stay active.

My updates

Yay!

Sunday 21st Sep
Lizzie and I did it! Challenging climbs, but the downhills made them worthwhile. There was a treat awaiting me at Trellech where my 1 year old (almost) grandson was waiting to cheer me on and show off his new tooth!

WOW! Can't believe it!!!

Thursday 18th Sep
A HUGE THANK YOU to my amazing family and friends for their generous donations to Parkinson's UK

Llast Llanhennock Lloop before I Pedal the Wye on Sunday!

Tuesday 16th Sep
The September Sunshine was smiling on me this morning as I went out for my final ride before Sunday. Then, my local bike shop kindly checked Lizzie was on good form for her challenge ahead - mudguard loose AGAIN! Looking forward to a few days of relaxation and hoping that next Sunday's weather is kinder than for the Tour de Gwent yesterday!

Up the Long Hill from Crick to Shirenewton. And down again!

Wednesday 10th Sep
When we was up we was up, and when we was down, we was down, and when we was only half way up, we was neither up nor down 😂

Llanhennock Lloop in March sunshine

Tuesday 9th Sep
Back around Llanhennock Lloop today to get a few hills in before meeting a friend for lunch. Downhill on the way home!

Smart shirt!

My shirt has arrived!

Look what had arrived for me when I got back from my week off!

The Blorenge, Sugar Loaf & Skirrid mountains

Tuesday 2nd Sep

Nant-y-Derry double loop with BREEZE Jacqui

Tuesday 2nd Sep
We set off in heavy rain, but the sun was shining and the sky blue to illuminate our view of the Blorenge, Sugar Loaf & Skirrid mountains. Nearly 23 miles and over 1,300ft elevation, so I'm taking a week off till my final push for Pedal the Wye. And .. donations have nearly reached £1000! No stopping me now!

Training ride #2 The Narth to Devauden via Trellech, Parkhouse, Trelleck Grange & Cobblers Plain

Saturday 30th Aug
Several cheeky hills to challenge Lizzie & I, but the downhills made them worthwhile and we cycled through beautiful countryside!

En route from Llanhennock to Tredunnoc earlier this year

Thursday 28th Aug

Late afternoon spin round the Llanhennock Lloop

Thursday 28th Aug
Dodged the showers today to enjoy one of my favourite local routes, just 14 miles and 950+ ft. elevation. Little and often is my current motto!

Picturesque pootle into Powys

Wednesday 27th Aug
A couple of short rides around Kington at the weekend to keep Lizzie & I moving.

One month to go and generous friends have taken my fundraising to over £750!!!

Wednesday 20th Aug
Today's training ride, kindly plotted and led by our leader Sarah, took us from Caerwent around a beautiful and challenging circular route of climbs and downhills. Up to Shirenewton, down to St Arvan's (past the Chepstow Racecourse start) then up again, accompanied by a convoy of porshes (!), down past Tintern Abbey and on to the Old Railway Station for lunch. Well rested, it was over the river onto the Wye Valley Greenway and through the Tidenham Tunnel (lights off please to protect the bats) to Chepstow. Back down across the Wye beside the castle, up out of Chepstow, then down Mathern Hill and back to Caldicot, where we'd parked next to the Roman remains. Wow, what a spectacular route! Definitely one to do again ...

Training Ride from Llandogo to The Narth via Whitebrook (and back)

Wednesday 13th Aug
Today it was time to tackle the first serious climbs of Pedal the Wye. The route took me up a beautifully shaded wooded valley on a quiet road beside White Brook. The downhill back was well worth the climb!

Celebrating kind friends' generous sponsorship - £600 so far!

Wednesday 13th Aug
On Monday I cycled with my BREEZE Buddies from Tredegar Park in Newport up to Cwmcarn Visitor Centre where we enjoyed a convivial pitstop. I then decided to celebrate the generous £600 donations from my kind friends by cycling solo to the top of the Forest Drive. Thanks to my Trusty Steed Lancashire Lizzie I got there! Whoop, whoop!

Thank you to my sponsors
