Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m walking to help fund specialist Parkinson’s care to thousands more people who urgently need it.

What Penny did next ...

Wednesday 11th Mar
Before I retired in August 2025, I considered helping women set-up businesses or volunteering at Citizens Advice, but life sometimes takes a different turn. A few months before I retired I received a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, a degenerative neurological condition. So, my retirement is shaped by this unexpected challenge. I have always been energetic and a fighter, so, I spend quite a lot of time working on my fitness because exercise is a great help.

I have joined Parkinson's UK, a charity that supports people with Parkinson's, campaigns for better health and care, funds research into groundbreaking new treatments, and runs life-changing support services.

Why am I sharing this? I will be walking to help fund specialist Parkinson’s care to thousands more people who urgently need it. Thousands of us are uniting to help people with Parkinson’s, and those who love and care for them, to get access to the support they need.
