Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Conor and Nick are both running a Half Marathon, so in total a marathon (sort of).  While this is a great challenge for us we are also doing it to raise contributions for Parkinsons UK.  

Why Parkinsons?  Matt (Conor’s Dad, Nick’s Brother) was diagnosed with early on-set Parkinsons 3 years ago.    He’s fit and well, and managing it, but with daunting challenges ahead.     So please be (very) generous,  all money raised will help fund breakthroughs and help support people facing present and future challenges from the Parkinson's community. 

UPDATE: Thank you for your generosity. Since starting this page, Matt’s medical team have updated his diagnosis from Parkinson's to a rarer, related neurological condition called PSP, because the symptoms overlap so much, initial diagnosis of Parkinson's is very common. The funds raised from the Big Half attempt go directly to Parkinson’s UK to fund vital brain and movement disorder research, which directly helps understanding of conditions like PSP.

Why only the half marathon?, well we’ve both had individual challenges over the years, which has limited training outputs, all resolved now.   A half mararthon seemed liked a good first target, hopefully without any long term damage! .   Conor to get back to his best, and hopefully on the way to a full marathon, and Nick to banish the memory of his last effort.

For benchmark,

Conor has a 3hr 28m full marathon, and is a sub 39min 10k runner.  Both from a few years ago, and has just got back training.

Nick has a 4hr 54m marathon, 21 years ago, a more recently in training a 43min 10k, and 1hr35min 20k.
