Back in September the Parkinson’s UK fundraising leaflet for 2026, dropped into my letterbox on the same week that I’d also happened to do a slightly longer run than normal. Before I knew it, I’d entered my first 10k!! I regularly run 5K, but that’s where my brain (and my legs) usually switch off!

Soooo……On Sunday the 12th July I will be running the Saucony 10k in London to raise money for Parkinson’s UK. A cause very close to mine and my family’s hearts along with close friends too. 

I would just like to share something I read recently on an email from Parkinson’s UK..

“Last year was a major year for Parkinson’s research. We took big steps towards a research breakthrough, backing ambitious trials and new treatments that bring us closer to slowing, stopping or even reversing the condition.

Thanks to your support, we’re currently funding 54 of the most promising research projects from cause to cure. And have 3 separate drugs in Phase 3 clinical trials right now, that could slow or stop the progression of Parkinson’s. This is the last major step before new treatments can be approved for people with Parkinson's.

What’s even more exciting? These drugs already treat other conditions, so if they pass this final stage of testing, a new treatment could be available in a few years, not decades.”

To think that they are so close to slowing or stopping the cruel symptoms that Parkinson’s brings, is a little mind blowing and gives so much hope to so many people affected by it.
