Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
A few years ago, I watched someone struggle to pick up a pair of glasses due to the tremor in his right hand. Something so ordinary, so automatic for most of us, had become difficult because of the tremor caused by Parkinson’s. It was only a brief moment, but it stayed with me. It made me think about all the little things we take for granted: holding a loved one’s hand, buttoning a shirt, writing a birthday card, pouring a drink, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee without thinking twice.
During my medical school placements, I’ve seen a glimpse of how Parkinson’s can slowly take away parts of everyday life that many of us never even notice. I can only imagine how frustrating and heartbreaking that must be, not just for those living with the condition, but also for the families who watch someone they love face these challenges every day.
That’s why I’m running this 10k. Compared with what so many people with Parkinson’s endure, a few miles and some aching legs feel insignificant. I’m running to challenge myself, but more importantly, I’m running in support of those whose challenges are far greater than mine.
If you’re able to donate, thank you. Together, we can help fund research, support families, and bring hope to people living with Parkinson’s.
