Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon for Parkinson’s UK and would really appreciate your support!
Over 10 years ago my Granddad was officially diagnosed with Parkinson's, although the doctors told him he's likely had it for much longer. I've grown up with my Granddad being a massive support in not only my life but also my siblings, encouraging us in all our sporting endeavors. When my parents were busy, he'd jump at the chance to take me to training and competitions. And not all went smoothly; taking the wrong exits around Spaghetti Junction or racing around Sheffield to find children's A+E when I was injured in a competition. I have so many fond memories.
I've watched in awe over the last few years at how well my Granddad has handled his diagnosis and how strong and resilient he has been. Unfortunately, his health is now failing and every moment together is precious.
After leaving athletics due to injury in 2017, I picked up my running shoes again at the beginning of 2024. I'm so excited to tell my Granddad that I am back running and especially partaking in Cardiff Half Marathon 2025 for him. At this time, I don't know whether Granddad will still be with is when the race comes around but I will carry him with me every step of the way regardless.
Please help by sponsoring my challenge. All money raised will help fund breakthroughs and help support the Parkinson's community.
