Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Both my mum and dad were diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and passed away just three years apart. As their primary carer, I experienced first-hand the devastating impact this illness has, not only physically, as it gradually takes over the body, but also mentally and emotionally. Parkinson’s affects everyone differently, which can make it difficult to understand and manage, and I was often struck by how little awareness there is around caring for those living with the disease, even within medical and care settings. While current treatments aim to slow its progression, they can come with significant side effects, sometimes creating additional challenges. There is still no cure. I’m fundraising for Parkinson’s UK to help raise awareness, support vital research into better treatments and ultimately a cure so that others may face a different future.
