Great North Run 2027

Why we are fundraising for Parkinson's UK

In 2027, we’re taking on the Great North Run together to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

Ellen’s Pop, who sadly died after living with Parkinson’s was a huge inspiration in her life. One of the things he passed on to her was his love of dancing — something Ellen has carried with her ever since. We’re particularly looking forward to the final turn onto The Leas, where we will pass the house where Ellen’s dad grew up. We’ll be keeping an eye out for the flags in the garden and making sure we give them (and hopefully our supporters!) a big wave as we run past Pop’s old house.

Both of our families have roots in the North East, so taking on the Great North Run feels like a fitting way to celebrate where we both come from.

We’ve also been running together, one of Euan’s 2026 highlights was turning Ellen into a Parkrun warrior. What started as something we could do together has now turned into a shared challenge; and we’re both going into the Great North Run with our eyes on PBs: 2h15 for Ellen, and 1h15 for Euan.

So, on race day, we’ll be running for Pop, for Parkinson’s UK, for our families, and for all the runs that Euan has dragged Ellen out onto in the cold and wet, and never letting her give up.

Any donation, however big or small, would mean a huge amount to us and will help Parkinson’s UK continue supporting people affected by Parkinson’s and fund vital research into the condition
