Jogging For Jim

TCS London Marathon Sunday 2027

Jogging For Jim

We’re Michael, Joanne and Julie. Two siblings and a cousin who have somehow all agreed to run 26.2 miles through London in memory of our dad and uncle, Jim.

Jim was one of life’s genuinely lovely people. A quiet, gentle man with a big heart, a dry sense of humour and a knack for making everyone around him feel looked after. He was happiest surrounded by family, enjoying a pint, travelling or having a barbecue.

He was also rather fond of a snooze. Every lunchtime, he’d settle down in front of the telly, close his eyes and insist he was “just resting my eyes”. His granddaughter Grace knew better and would regularly greet him with a very loud “Wake up Granddad!”

In 2021, Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and later with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), a rare neurological condition. Over the following years, we watched him gradually lose the ability to do so many of the everyday things we all take for granted. It was heartbreaking, especially for someone who had always been so independent and never wanted to put anyone out.

We lost Jim in July 2026, but even at the end he was thinking of others. He chose to donate his brain to the Parkinson’s UK Brain Bank to help researchers better understand Parkinson’s and PSP and hopefully bring us closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure.

That was Jim all over. Always thinking of others, even at the end.

So now it’s our turn to do something for him.

We’re running the 2027 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 25 April 2027, raising money for Parkinson’s UK to support people living with Parkinson’s, their families and the research that could change lives in the future.

London was Jim’s home for almost his entire life, so running through the streets of the city he loved makes this particularly special.

Collectively we’ve set ourselves an initial fundraising target of £10,000 and we’d love your support. Whether you can donate, share our page or simply cheer us on as we attempt to drag ourselves around 26.2 miles, it all means a great deal.

We’re calling ourselves Jogging For Jim. Whether what we’re doing by mile 22 still qualifies as jogging remains to be seen!

We can’t promise record-breaking times. We can’t even promise there won’t be a little walking involved. But we can promise we’ll give it everything we’ve got.

For Jim. For everyone affected by Parkinson’s. And for the hope that one day other families won’t have to go through what ours has.

Thank you for supporting Jogging For Jim.

Michael, Joanne & Julie 💙

We’re Parkinson’s UK. The charity that’s here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. Wherever you’re from, whatever you need.

We don’t wait for change, we make it happen. We believe that together we’ll find a cure. But that’s not all we’re working for. We campaign for better health and care, fund research into groundbreaking new treatments, and run life-changing support services.

Families, volunteers, campaigners, fundraisers, scientists, health and care workers. We’re a powerful community united by one mission: improving life with Parkinson’s.
