Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson’s to fund Parkinson's UK's groundbreaking research into better treatments and a cure.

My Mum had Parkinson’s and it was heartbreaking to watch the strongest woman in my life - my inspiration- decline gradually into a frail shadow of her former self. She developed dementia as the condition progressed and became wheelchair-bound for the last two years of her life. I want to raise funds for Parkinson’s in her memory, she would have been 86 this year... Always loved and never forgotten.

There’s no cure for Parkinson’s. Yet.

I'm uniting with thousands of others, all passionate about improving life for people with Parkinson’s.

Monday 4th Nov

What? The challenge is over?… 😔

Monday 4th Nov
So it’s been a busy month, but the dogs and I have thoroughly enjoyed doing our Walkies for Parkinson’s. Together, we’ve walked 93 miles, (I took the final week of October off, as my husband and I were on holiday..) We’re delighted to have been able to raise money for Parkinson’s, and am very grateful to everyone who has sponsored us. 🥰 I’ve been mindful continually throughout this challenge of the reason I signed up for this… In loving memory of my precious Mum Barbara McDerment… Always Loved and Never Forgotten. ❤️

Saturday 19th Oct

Running, digging and swimming at Dunecht estate.

Saturday 19th Oct
For Bailey and Petra, it’s just another day of high-energy fun, but so far this month we have walked 74 miles, (although if the dogs had a pedometer, they would have clocked up so many more!) It’s been a beautiful calm Autumn day and we enjoyed a lovely peaceful forest, loch & estate walk in Aberdeenshire with friends. 🥰

From Monday’s walk

Swimming for Parkinson’s on Monday

Wednesday 16th Oct
Autumn sun, ice cold water and a ball - river walks two days in a row… Bailey and Petra are loving this month’s challenge! 😍

River Dee this morning 🥰

Sunday 13th Oct
Today I was at work, so the dogs (and my husband) went down to the riverside without me. (As it’s ‘Walkies’ for Parkinson’s, I’ve counted this as part of this month’s challenge.). Thanks for the support, David, and well done to Bailey and Petra for doing loads more miles than us so far this month… 🥰

One week in..

Monday 7th Oct
It’s been dark, grey and miserable in Aberdeen today, but Bailey and Petra are delighted (as ever) to be out again in the torrential rain… More muddy puddles to splash in!

Bandanas have arrived, these two are ready to go… 🤩

Increasing the target

Monday 2nd Sep
I have increased my fundraising target to £100. This, for me, is not about the “likes, loves or cares.”  It’s about raising awareness and funds for a cause close to my family’s heart. ❤️ Many thanks again to all who have donated so far. xx

Upping the miles

Tuesday 20th Aug
So, I felt that doing 30 miles for our Walkies in October fundraiser would be a walk in the park, please excuse the pun! I have now doubled it to 60 miles to make it more of a challenge.

Getting the practise in…

Sunday 18th Aug
We’re still in August and the dogs and I have put on our walking boots, (thunderstorms or not!) and here is last week’s summary of my steps…. In between work and home life, it’s been a busy week. Well done to my two happy pups, who definitely did so many more!… 🐕🐈‍⬛🥰

My two dogs.. (double trouble!) 🥰

Wednesday 7th Aug
I grew up around dogs and these are my two mischievous ones. Both were adopted and bring me joy every day… They’re very active (I know I will undoubtedly exceed my 30 mile target.) Nowadays I can’t imagine life without them... 🥰
