Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

My beloved dad, who passed away in 1998, had Parkinson's and suffered so much in the final months and year of his life. His name was Mr Edward Rafferty, affectionately known by Ted by all who knew him. He was a D-Day veteran, a lifelong Liverpool football club supporter and just an all round really nice bloke. I still miss him.

So this charity is close to my heart but not only because of my dad but also in relation to the many others I know with family members/partners/friends with this debilitating and progressive neurological condition.

Please help by sponsoring me with whatever you can. The money raised will help fund groundbreaking research and change the lives of the Parkinson's community.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Chantal :-)

My 50k ultra challenge - I did it!

Wednesday 20th Nov
A lot of you who know me well are aware that I like a challenge! So after the London Marathon, I went on to complete a Backyard Ultra challenge which involves running a 6.67km loop on the hour every hour until you drop! Anyway after really enjoying that (I managed 6 but aimed for 5 so I was very happy!) I decided to enter a 50k ultra which was on 9th November. Oh my goodness what a route!
We started off at Gloucester Quays and followed the Severn through endless fields of long grass, paths full of brambles and nettles, lots of mud to negotiate and what seemed like a hundred stiles to climb over, cows and sheep to say hello to on the way (maybe I was a bit delirious at that point!) and an angry farmer and the final straw was the bog to wade through! I thought I would be stuck there forever! The final 10k was on the canal towpath leading to Sharpness Docks which was nice and flat but by then my legs felt like lead. The ultimate challenge was the steep hill in the final 2k and another field of long wet grass. My joy at completing was, as you can imagine, immense! And my support crew, Gareth, was there with my warm clean clothes and a large packet of crisps :-)))
My next big race will be the London Marathon in April next year but being a slightly shorter flat route with no countryside to navigate I’m hoping that will feel ‘easier’ :-))

I'm doing it again!

Thursday 22nd Aug
I am so thrilled and excited (and nervous!) about being selected to run the London Marathon 2025! It'll be my second attempt at London so I am hoping for bigger and better things! Firstly in terms of my time: in 2024 I managed it in 4:40 - not bad but next year I'm really going to push myself to run it in 4 hours! Secondly: I'm going to give it my all in terms of fundraising and hopefully raise more than I did this year!

Thank you to my sponsors

Dear Chantal, It’s amazing that you do it a second time, all my very best, physical and mental strength. But the ultimate thing is that you do it out of love for your father. Xxx
