Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

My beloved dad, who passed away in 1998, had Parkinson's and suffered so much in the final months and year of his life. His name was Mr Edward Rafferty, affectionately known by Ted by all who knew him. He was a D-Day veteran, a lifelong Liverpool football club supporter and just an all round really nice bloke. I still miss him.

So this charity is close to my heart but not only because of my dad but also in relation to the many others I know with family members/partners/friends with this debilitating and progressive neurological condition.

Please help by sponsoring me with whatever you can. The money raised will help fund groundbreaking research and change the lives of the Parkinson's community.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Chantal :-)

My updates

I did it!!!

Monday 28th Apr
I DID IT!!!! I completed my second London Marathon. It was hard work in the intense heat and actually one of the hardest races I've ever finished. At various points along the way the London Fire Brigade were out hosing us down - that was very welcoming! Plus there were lots of water stations and cups of ice being handed out.
It was a very unique experience, totally overwhelming, thrilling, emotional and blooming hard work but I did it despite the intense pain in my legs that started about half way through and the overwhelming feelings of heat exhaustion.
The sights and sounds along the way were like being a part of the biggest street party in the world! In fact this 45th London Marathon now holds a World Record for having the largest amount of finishers of any marathon anywhere in the world. Respect to all the spectators for battling through the crowds and supporting everyone!
After seeing Gareth and friends enroute cheering me during the 5 hours as I was running we met up at a pub afterwards to join some of my family (my brother also ran it!) for a much needed slap up meal and some wine :-)))
Would I do London again?! Hmm, not entirely sure but I’ll be back training soon for another big race I have coming up in June!

Yogathon was a great success!

Sunday 20th Apr
Thanks for joining me on Saturday 19th April for the Yogathon. It was a great success! The first class was at 7am and the last class at 1pm. After that no-one else was booked on probably because it was the Easter weekend and you all had stuff to do! However, despite us finishing earlier than we expected we still generated over £900 in donations!!!
WOW! Thank you all so very much!!

My 50k ultra challenge - I did it!

Wednesday 20th Nov
A lot of you who know me well are aware that I like a challenge! So after the London Marathon, I went on to complete a Backyard Ultra challenge which involves running a 6.67km loop on the hour every hour until you drop! Anyway after really enjoying that (I managed 6 but aimed for 5 so I was very happy!) I decided to enter a 50k ultra which was on 9th November. Oh my goodness what a route!
We started off at Gloucester Quays and followed the Severn through endless fields of long grass, paths full of brambles and nettles, lots of mud to negotiate and what seemed like a hundred stiles to climb over, cows and sheep to say hello to on the way (maybe I was a bit delirious at that point!) and an angry farmer and the final straw was the bog to wade through! I thought I would be stuck there forever! The final 10k was on the canal towpath leading to Sharpness Docks which was nice and flat but by then my legs felt like lead. The ultimate challenge was the steep hill in the final 2k and another field of long wet grass. My joy at completing was, as you can imagine, immense! And my support crew, Gareth, was there with my warm clean clothes and a large packet of crisps :-)))
My next big race will be the London Marathon in April next year but being a slightly shorter flat route with no countryside to navigate I’m hoping that will feel ‘easier’ :-))

I'm doing it again!

Thursday 22nd Aug
I am so thrilled and excited (and nervous!) about being selected to run the London Marathon 2025! It'll be my second attempt at London so I am hoping for bigger and better things! Firstly in terms of my time: in 2024 I managed it in 4:40 - not bad but next year I'm really going to push myself to run it in 4 hours! Secondly: I'm going to give it my all in terms of fundraising and hopefully raise more than I did this year!

Thank you to my sponsors
