The reason why..
Tuesday 4th AugRunning a marathon is one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever taken on, but it feels small compared to the challenges my grandma faced every single day.
My wonderful grandma lived with Parkinson’s for more than 12 years. Watching someone you love gradually lose their independence is heartbreaking, and I saw firsthand the devastating impact this disease has not only on the person living with Parkinson’s, but also on the family and friends who love them.
Throughout those years, my grandad was her full time carer. His unwavering love, patience, and dedication never faltered, even as the challenges grew. Together, they showed extraordinary courage, resilience, and unconditional love.
Despite everything they faced, they found comfort in attending local Parkinson’s support group meetings. There, they met others who truly understood the challenges they were living with, formed friendships and found strength in a community that supported one another through the difficult days. Those connections meant so much to them and reminded them they were never facing Parkinson’s alone.
I’m running this marathon in honour of them both and to support Parkinson’s UK in the incredible work they do funding research, improving care, and supporting people and families living with Parkinson’s.
Every mile I run is for them, and every donation no matter how big or small will help make a real difference. Thank you so much for your support and for helping me honour two truly incredible people.
