Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the Great North Run on 13 September 2026 to raise vital funds for Parkinson's UK.
Parkinson’s UK is an amazing charity, with all money raised going towards Parkinson’s nurses to provide people living with the condition help and support, one of these people being my grandad. For those of you that know me, know my grandad, or ‘Ta’, as he was better known to me, was my best mate. We did everything together over the years, and he was my partner in crime through it all.
He was one of the best men I've had the pleasure to know - despite him being one of the biggest Sunderland fans I’ve ever come across. That was perhaps the only thing we ever disagreed on in my 22 years with him.
Ta bravely lived with Parkinsons for around eight years before he passed in November aged 75. I miss him every single day. He knew about my place in the GNR before he left us, even joking with me that I wouldn't beat his time (02:08:08) from the 80's. He wasn't wrong.
My initial motivation for the GNR was to give back as a thank you for Grandad has done for me over the years. Its bittersweet that circumstances have changed and now I'm doing it in his memory.
Parkinson’s can be really horrid for the entire family, but with the help of Parkinson’s UK, we can make it just a little bit better, and bring light to what can be a really dark time. I've seen first had the vital work Parkinsons nurses can do and they are quite literally a godsend. All money raised will go to Parkinson’s UK nurses, to provide much-needed advice, support and information for people who are living with the condition.
