Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the Great North Run on 13 September 2026 to raise vital funds for Parkinson's UK.
Parkinson’s UK is an amazing charity, with all money raised going towards Parkinson’s nurses to provide people living with the condition help and support, one of these people being my grandad. For those of you that know me, know my grandad, or ‘Ta’, as I often refer to him, has always been my best mate. We’ve done everything together over the years, and he’s been my partner in crime through it all. I’ve always looked up to him, despite him being one of the biggest Sunderland fans I’ve ever come across. I even wanted to be a firefighter like he was till I realised heights just weren’t for me😂.
Grandad has been living with Parkinson’s for about eight years now. It’s been hard to see him change as a consequence of Parkinson’s over the years - he’s now living in a care home with dementia too, and some days are harder than others. He’s still causing havoc, however, and still has a wicked sense of humour. I would like to give back as a thank you for all him and my grandma have done for me over the years. Parkinson’s can be really horrid for the entire family, but with the help of Parkinson’s UK, we can make it just a little bit better, and bring light to what can be a really dark time. All the money raised will go to Parkinson’s UK nurses, to provide much-needed advice, support and information for people who are living with the condition.
I’m by no means a runner, and I can’t tell you a single run I’ve ever enjoyed, but I think my grandad is very much worth the challenge. Thank you for reading.
