Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
GNR
In September I’ll be running the GNR with my sister in honour of our lovely grandma.
Our grandma was diagnosed with Parkinsons at a very young age, and it quickly dominated her life and changed the lives of those around her. So many people understand Parkinsons to be just a tremor or something that only affects the elderly, but in our grandma’s case it was so debilitating that it quickly robbed her of her independence. Despite her symptoms it didn’t stop her from trying to do everything a ‘normal’ grandma would do, she took us to the pantomime every Christmas, had us for sleepovers (even though we all ran rings around her), and despite her mobility insisted on walking us to Morrisons cafe for our lunch whenever we went to stay. Eventually she became wheelchair bound and needed to go into a care home, but she never complained, never stopped nagging me about my handwriting, and always had a stash of chocolate in her mini fridge for all the grandkids.
Parkinsons UK is campaigning for better healthcare, funding new research for treatments and personalised support.
I really hope that the money we raise can help those diagnosed and their families, and we really appreciate any donations big or small.
Good luck! You’ll be amazing
