Running in my Dad's footsteps 40 years on...

At 60, my Dad received the devastating diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. Yet, a lifetime of unwavering fitness has been his greatest ally, slowing the disease's relentless march and defying doctors' grim prognosis. This year, he proudly celebrated his 70th birthday—a milestone of resilience and joy.

Back in 1986, he laced up for the East London Half Marathon, organized by Hackney Council to support Sport Aid. Fast-forward four decades to Hackney Half 2026: I'll be running in his footsteps to raise vital funds and awareness for Parkinson's.

Dad was hospitalised 😔

Sunday 1st Feb

Just a quick update on my training and, more importantly, on my Dad.

Unfortunately, Tim Snr was admitted to hospital 3 weeks ago after developing a serious infection, complicated by some underlying issues related to his Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia.  

He’s now stable and responded well to the antibiotics, which is a big relief. That said, it will likely take some time for him to regain enough strength and mobility to come home.  

Thank you so much to everyone who has sent kind messages, offered support, or asked about visiting — it means a lot to all of us.

On the running side, training continues to go really well. I’ve been putting in plenty of good track sessions, I’ve already ticked off a couple of training half-marathons in January, and today I’ve got our home club’s 10-mile league road race — a perfect chance to see exactly where my fitness is at right now.

Thanks again to everyone who has donated so far — it’s genuinely appreciated and helping more than you know.

Memories from a few years ago. Thursday night 'Out and backs' along the seafront with Ryde Harriers. Possibly the last opportunity we had to run together.

Whilst Dad was never a member of the Harrier's back then he still holds fond memories of running most of their races throughout the 80's when he moved to the Isle of Wight from Essex.
