Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Please help by sponsoring my challenge. All money raised will help fund breakthroughs and help support the Parkinson's community.

My updates

For Rob and for Parkinsons research

Friday 21st Mar
Thanks for visiting my page. I’ve been a keen runner for almost 20 years, and having just turned 40 wanted to mark the year by taking on a real challenge, which will be Race to the Stones 100km ultramarathon from Lewknor to Avebury Stones, along the Ridgway.
I also had the opportunity to run this for Parkinson’s , which I really wanted to do in memory of my late Godfather Rob Smythe who we sadly lost last year at a far too young age, and who in latter years had suffered from the disease. To me Rob was always an inspirational adventurer, travelling the world on his motorbike and in his camper van Gulliver. I have many wonderful memories of Rob who taught me and my brother Mat to climb many evenings after school at the local centre in Brum. Rob took me on my first and only motorbike ride (through the A38 tunnels in Bham city centre), took us camping as kids (Boys on Tour) including losing the tent one night on a cliff top in Devon in some wild winds and having to retreat to his nearest friends in the middle of the night. Rob also helped me give a police witness statement in Harborne police station after a mugging! So many different memories. More recently catching up over regular curries and being able to introduce Rob to our children Cass and Bess was brilliant, and wish he’d had the opportunity to take them camping in the wild weather too! And so I’m doing this one for Rob who was a truly fantastic and kind man, and who our family really miss, and also all those who are impacted by this disease in the hope that there can be better times ahead.

As an idea of what the money raised could do:
£75 enables a Parkinson’s nurse-led clinic in the community for half a day;
£500 would fund a Parkinson’s nurse for 25 hours;
£1000 would support a cutting edge reach project for a week;
£2500 would mean provision of a nursing service for those without local support for 2 weeks;
Everything helps, so thanks to all those who are able to donate, it is truly appreciated.
