Team Mullen are running for their wee mummy
2026 has been a rollercoaster year for the Mullen family following the loss of the head of the family – our beautiful mummy Anne.
In September this year the five siblings – Darren, Shane, Joanne Rachel and Neil will take on the Great North Run together. For some of us, it's a return to running after a long break, for others it’s the first time owning a pair of running shoes. And for all of us, it's in support of two causes that matter deeply to us: Parkinson's UK and Dementia UK.
Our mummy was diagnosed with Parkinson's at the age of 47 and for many years she dedicated her time to helping others living with the same illness. She set up a local support group in Newry & Mourne and was a shining light for so many individuals and their families at their darkest hours.
Mummy was later diagnosed with Dementia on her 72nd birthday and this diagnosis devasted our family. It was extremely difficult watching mummy battle a second illness when she had fought one for so many years already.
In true Anne Mullen form she continued putting others first – her family and her new friends in the nursing home. She was an absolute joy to be around with the most infectious laugh that would light up a room even on a bad day.
Our mummy was an exceptional role model and in her memory we aim to take part in the Great North Run to raise awareness and funds for two causes who need help and support.
Training isn't always easy. There are countless injuries in these out of practice legs, early mornings, and days when motivation is hard to find. But we keep showing upFor our mummy. And for people who need support now and in the future.
And we can't do it alone.
If you'd like to help, here are a few simple ways:
● Donate: Every contribution supports Parkinson's UK and Dementia UK.
● Share: Passing this on helps spread awareness.
● Learn more: Visit Parkinson's UK and Dementia UK to understand the impact of their work.
● Cheer us on: Your encouragement carries us through the hardest miles.
We’ll be sharing our journey, our training, the honest moments, and race day itself. Be a part of it with us. We’d love that.
The Mullens x
