This May, I’ll be attempting the Hackney Half for Parkinson’s UK — a charity very close to my heart. In January 2023, my Dad lost his 12-year battle with Parkinson’s, and through volunteering over the last couple of years I’ve seen just how vital the charity’s work is. Specialist nurses are absolute heroes… and unfortunately, not cheap.
I should also be honest — I’m pretty much starting from scratch with running (slow miles definitely count). After emergency spinal surgery in February 2025, recovery hasn’t been straightforward, and signing up for a half marathon may have been a slightly unhinged decision. But now it’s public, I’m locked in — no backing out.
Every slow mile, slightly dramatic training run, and post-run wobble is for Dad and for everyone living with Parkinson’s. If you can donate, share, or hold me accountable when I complain about training, I’d be hugely grateful. Every little really does help 💛
