Why are we fundraising for Parkinson's UK
I'm so proud of Mike - since being diagnosed with Parkinson's in January 2011 he's refused to let it stop him. He did a duathlon in Richmond Park in 2012 and a year later we did the London Marathon together in April 2013. When his lack of balance made riding a bike dangerous, he got a recumbent trike which he still rides regularly in the park. He exercises most days of the week including: walking up to 30 lengths of the pool weekly to strengthen his legs (he can't fall in the water), doing personal training, and an excellent exercise class designed for people with Parkinson's. Despite tearing rotator cuff tendons in both shoulders he continues to go to the gym, has personal training once a week and has tried boxercise and seated bowls. Parkinson's UK have funded free membership for him and me at Everyone Active gyms and introduced us to John Molyneux, a Sports Therapist with vast experience of working with people with Parkinson's. John has been a game changer for Mike over the last year as he struggled with his mobility and confidence. John's knowledge, encouragement and belief in Mike has given him hope and confidence and renewed his determination. He's hoping to walk a mile on 5th July (he's up to 1/3 mile in training so it will be tough) but seeing your support will make all the difference.
We're walking to help fund specialist Parkinson’s care to thousands more people who urgently need it.
