Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I love to surround myself with positive, active, strong, determined friends and this is particularly true of mine and Pete's bestie Marky Mark.  He was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinsons in 2016 at the age of 47.  A devastating diagnosis!!   However, Marky Mark has gone onto inspire us with his drive and determination to raise funds and awareness by:

• completing Cardiff Half Marathon
• Trek to Machu Picchu (Peru)
• Trek across the Pyrenees from France to Spain
• UK 3 Peaks 24 Hour challenge
• Abseil from the top of the St. Davids Hotel, Cardiff
•Sky Dive

I am super inspired by him and a lot of my crazy friends so much so, that I had the urge (stupid thought lol) that I should complete a few events this year and raise money for this wonderful charity.  This year I will be attempting:

• April 23rd - London Marathon (thanks to OPR Running Club for the much sought after place).
• 20th May - Carten.  Cycle from Cardiff to Tenby (107 miles)
• 4th June - Cotswold 70.3 Triathlon (half IM distance)- 1.2 mile lake swim, 56 mile bike ride and a half marathon
• Fri 30th June to Sunday 2nd July - Long Course weekend - I will attempt to do the full weekend - 2.4 mile swim on Friday, 112 mile very hilly bike on Saturday and a very hilly marathon (26 mile run) on Sunday.
• 17th September - Weymouth 70.3 Ironman

Writing these down now, I am thinking 'how the hell am I going to do this!' Anyhow, I am going to give them a go.  The training plans started in January of this year,  6 days a week, twice a day for most days - up at 5am for swimming or Wattbike, biking 3 times a week and running 3 times a week.  Weekends involve silly miles of running and biking.  This is taking over my life this year until September 18th the day after my final event when I will be throwing all my kit in the bin lol and disassociating myself from all my strong, positive, determined friends lol!.  

Just in case you were wondering, I am not a natural athlete, I moan a lot whenever I train, I look like I hate every second, I am not a morning person, I HATE swimming in open water - I refuse to open my eyes in the water as I don't want to see Jaws coming to eat me or the Jelly Fish coming my way.  I am a cautious, fair weather cyclist and HATE hills, I moan constantly at the sight of each and every hill and I dislike running very much especially the injuries I seem to always get and the lack of toe nails I have!  What I do love is the amazing friendships that I have made and the support we all give each other.  The buzz I get from completing challenges that I would have thought were impossible for me or completely stepping out of my comfort zone and pushing myself.  How I feel stronger and more determined than ever.

I would be super grateful if you could help me to support this charity which is doing such amazing work and also to keep me motivated each and every day whilst I am on this crazy journey.  Thank you for reading this stupidly long message - I really appreciate all your support :-)

Why am I supporting this amazing charity??

Saturday 1st Apr
our mum, son or friend. Anyone can get Parkinson’s, young or old. Every hour, two more people are diagnosed.

There are over 40 symptoms. Tremor. Pain. Anxiety. Everyone’s experience is different. And there’s no cure. Yet.

That’s why I’m fundraising for Parkinson’s UK. With your help we can fund better care, drive research breakthroughs and one day find a cure.
