Great North Run in memory of my Grandma for Parkinson's UK
I’m taking part in the Great North Run on September 8, 2024, to raise vital money for Parkinson's UK.
Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects the brain and worsens over time. It's the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world, and my grandma received a diagnosis at a young age.
It's a cruel and incurable condition, it's only recently that I've truly understood how incredibly strong my grandma was. I was young but always inspired by her as despite the challenges she faced them with the biggest smile, taking care of us, finding joy in dancing, being outgoing and having such a positive outlook on everything in life.
Going beyond affecting just the person living with the condition, and it's honestly shown me how much love and care my grandad and other family members have. Throughout the good times and the bad, the funny moments and the sad, every day with Parkinson's is different, with its unique challenges and joys.
This is why I'm dedicating this run to my grandma. I want to raise money for Parkinson's UK nurses, who provide essential advice, support, and information for people living with this condition.
The 7th–13th of April is Parkinson’s Awareness Week, with World Parkinson’s Day taking place every year on the 11th of April to raise awareness of Parkinson's. Any donations, awareness raised, or support will make a difference.
Thanks
