Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the TCS 2025 London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK and would really appreciate your support!

Parkinson’s has affected my father, Arthur Simpson recently, which came as a surprise to me as none of our family (that we have known about) has ever had Parkinson’s. It was my belief that it was hereditary and it didn’t cross my mind until my father was diagnosed and I see everyday what a struggle it can be to live with, therefore I am going to raise funds to support those suffering with Parkinson’s and find a cure by running in the London marathon for Parkinson’s UK.

Please help by sponsoring me with whatever you can. The money raised will help fund groundbreaking research and change the lives of the Parkinson's community.

For every £75: would enable a Parkinson’s nurse-led clinic to run for half a day.

Every £150: would allow Parkinson’s uk to answer 15 calls on their helpline.

Every £500: would fund a Parkinson’s nurse for 25 hours.

Every £1000: would fund a cutting edge research project for a week.

Every £2500: would mean they could provide a nursing service for those without local support for 2 weeks.

Every pound we raise brings us closer to the day that no one fears Parkinson’s.

My updates

Tuesday 29th Apr
Officially completed London marathon 2025 and have the medal to prove it 🏅🏃🏻‍♂️

Last Long Run

Tuesday 8th Apr
My last long run before the marathon (and before I went away for work for 2 weeks). I ran 33.35 km (20.7 miles) in 3 h 7 mins.

Half marathon PB

Monday 24th Feb
While I’m offshore I find it difficult to go on runs as I think treadmills are very boring, but I set up my phone to watch ‘Yes Man’ and managed to keep myself distracted and ran a half marathon in 1 hour 39 minutes ☺️ 🏃🏻‍♂️

6 prize raffle

Sunday 9th Feb
4 whiskies, Gavi & Prosecco gift set, £20 voucher to Cluny Fish. £5 x 60 raffles = £300

Coffee Morning ☕️

Tuesday 14th Jan
I will be holding a coffee morning at Portessie Public Hall on Saturday 1st February between 9am - 12 noon. There will be raffles, home bakes, guess number of sweets as well as a bottle stall. All are welcome ☺️

5km+ Per Day in December

Tuesday 14th Jan
I ran at least 5km every day in the month of December, including a half marathon. The total distance that I ran in the month of December 2024 was 227.95km (or 141.64 miles), which is a bit more than just 5km per day total of 155km.

Half marathon 🏃🏻‍♂️

Saturday 14th Dec
During my 5km a day in December, I ran a half marathon with a time of 1 hour 55 mins.

5km a day in December

Friday 6th Dec
I am challenging myself with my training and going to be running at least 5km a day in the lovely cold month of December. (Maybe runs on the treadmill if it’s too cold 😅).

10 mile run 🏃🏻

Sunday 1st Dec
First proper run in 2 weeks due to being ill 🤧

Shaved my head!

Thursday 31st Oct
I hit a milestone of £1500 and shaved my head bald

Guess pumpkin name raffle 🎃

Wednesday 30th Oct
Made £150 from doing a raffle over the past month. Getting closer to my target. Well over half way now.

Wk 5

Tuesday 8th Oct
Ran with William to Findochty and back, plus I ran around streets at the end to get to 15km. Easy jog. Pushed myself at the end.

Back running this week 🏃🏻‍♂️

Friday 4th Oct
Feeling recovered enough to run again, so I ran on Tuesday and Thursday this week

Possible broken toe 🤬

Tuesday 24th Sep
Stubbed my toe yesterday and possibly broke it. I will rest most of the day and then tape it up and go for a slow jog tonight maybe, just so I’m not falling behind my training.

Wk 2 complete

Monday 23rd Sep
Ran a total of 21.86 miles in week 2, instead of the 9 miles that my training schedule said to do. It will catch up to me 😅

1st proper marathon training plan week

Monday 16th Sep
According to my training plan, I should have ran a total of 5-6 miles total for the week. I like to push myself a lot and thought I could easily do more than that. So, I ran a total of 16.4 miles in my first training schedule week.

Shaving my head!

Monday 2nd Sep
Making a milestone along the way to my £2500 goal, at £1500 I am going to shave my head and go bald.

Farthest run so far

Monday 19th Aug
I’ve just managed to complete a 10 mile run while not setting out to do so: had a goal of 13.5km, reached that and thought I’d go 14km, got to 15km and checked my phone on what that was in miles. Found out that I just needed to run another 1.1km to reach 10 miles, and that’s what I did.

I ran 10 miles in 88:44 mins today.

Why I chose to take on a marathon for Parkinson’s UK

Thursday 8th Aug

Parkinson’s has affected my father, Arthur Simpson recently, which came as a surprise to me as none of our family (that we have known about) has ever had Parkinson’s.
