Run 50/50 2025

My activity tracking

50
miles

My target 50 miles

In memory of my Dad, who we lost in 2021 💕

I’m taking part in Run 50/50 from 10th March - 28th April to help Parkinson's UK support the Parkinson's community.

There’s still no cure, and it's such a cruel disease which robbed my family of our #1 man.

2024 was a very happy and incredible year of my life, but getting married without my Dad was really hard, so it feels like the right time to do something in his memory to hopefully help others and channel my grief somewhere positive.

50 miles in 50 days sounds straightforward and not as huge as some sporting challenges, but those who know me through netball will know that in recent years I shy away from running, shuttles feel like the bain of my life and it just doesn't feel like I'm built for this, so for me this will be a challenge.

I have dug out the Garmin running watch so I can track everything on Strava for Accountability.

Any donations to spur me on would be massively appreciated 🙏🏻💕

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Saturday 26th Apr
48 Days 37 Runs 9 hours 46 mins 50 Miles £1,400+ raised 🥹🥰❤️⭐💪🏻 What.A.Challenge. Completed my last 3 miles this morning, completing the Parkrun 5k in 35:52 (I had been aiming for 38/39!) Thanks so much to everyone who sponsored me, I really appreciate your encouragement and support. I believe my fundraising page will still be open for a few weeks, so any last donations are very much welcome and appreciated if anyone wishes to contribute.

8 days and counting!

Sunday 20th Apr

42 Days ago I told everyone I was doing the Parkinson's Run 50 miles in 50 days challenge, with the hopes I could raise £100-£150 in my Dad's memory.

Fast forward to today, I have raised over £1k, my best friends, netball teammates & coaches, colleagues and older brother have been running with me to spur me on. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, it's been pretty overwhelming.

But it's not been plain sailing- I've had a foot injury to manage, I slipped on the tennis courts and bruised my knee pretty badly, we had a nasty bought of Norovirus which set me back, and doing this challenge on top of walking the dog, netball training and matches, as well as tennis practise was always going to be rough, but I am determined to finish it in one piece.

I currently have 11 miles left to cover, and 8 days left to do it in, with my 50th day falling on Monday 28th.

My legs are aching, my Strava is sick of me doing the same little laps around the park and I pretty much just want this to be over now 🤣

Any further sponsorship would be massively appreciated to keep me going into the final week 🙏🏻🎉🤞🏻

Approaching the home straight!

Saturday 19th Apr
Yesterday my wonderful friend Nat came for a mile with me. Another non runner friend wanting to support me 🥹🥹🥹 Her Dad also has Parkinson's so she understands on a level that many can't. Grateful to have her in my life ❤️ 9 days and 12.5 miles to go! 💪🏻🎉⭐🤞🏻

Plodding on!

Tuesday 15th Apr
Just back from a morning jog... SO much harder than going at lunchtime or after work, but proud of getting 2 more miles on the board.
Still playing a little bit of catch-up and having to dig quite deep at the moment to keep going.
18 miles and 13 days left! 💪🏻🎉🤞🏻

27 miles in 19 days to go... We got this 💪🏻

Wednesday 9th Apr
Having had 6 days to rest I find myself tracking 8 miles behind schedule. I injured my foot last week and managed netball at the weekend but have tried to be sensible and not overdo it/make it worse. My best friend Holly isn't a runner but wanted to support me and join me for a mile, so it was the perfect boost to get me back in my trainers. She absolutely smashed it and I can run without pain which was a massive relief. Will need to do some longer runs to catch up, but I know I can 💪🏻💪🏻🎉🎉 #letsdothis

21 miles in and finally feeling comfy!

Wednesday 2nd Apr
Having done a lot of these little routes now, I headed out tonight and plodded along and actually felt pretty good 😍 quite enjoyed myself in the evening sun and think I can start trying to go a bit faster and further more often now. Considering 3 and a half weeks ago I wasn't even sure I'd last the first mile, I'm so chuffed. Also super overwhelmed to pass the £1k sponsorship mark, never could've dreamed I'd get that much and can't thank you all enough for the support 🥹

Running is better with friends 🥹🥰

Tuesday 1st Apr
My netball teammates ran a mile with me at training today in place of our usual fitness block in our session 🥹🥰 Used my Garmin watch and Strava as a combo to make sure we defo covered a mile. The map is beaut 🤣 A mile is just over 17 laps of a netball court in case you wondered #squadgoals

Aaaaand she's back 💪🏻

Friday 21st Mar
I was forced to miss a few days as we had a nasty case of Norovirus which wiped us out for 3 days 😢
An unexpected setback isn't going to rattle me completely, so I plodded off in my Parkinson's UK Run 50/50 t shirt tonight and managed to log my first 2 mile run. Having not eaten much for a few days it was just about getting round, there's plenty of time left for setting personal bests!
40 miles to go... 38 days to do it! 💪🏻🎉

5 miles down, 45 to go!

Friday 14th Mar

10% of the challenge done... and a stark reminder hit me like a tonne of bricks tonight

Going into this, I said it's a way to channel my grief, as Parkinson's is very much something that I see as our families past trauma now.

I get to Friday evening, and I think ah it's been a long week, the thought of wrestling into a sports bra and going for a plod round the block feels too much. Maybe I could make it up over the weekend and have a rest day? 1.5 miles Saturday and Sunday would mean I can just stay home tonight and scroll my phone, watch TV and relax.

Still torn, I head on in to the Parkinson's 50/50 Facebook group (after about an hour of scrolling 🤦🏻‍♀️), and the reality hits me. There are others doing this challenge who are pushing through....

- the lady who has severe asthma and is asking for guidance on how to regulate her breathing while running
- the lady whose dad passed away from Parkinson's just yesterday, and she managed to get out there and run today
- several people who themselves have early onset Parkinson's but are still able to enjoy running, despite some days their meds not working properly so their times are a bit slower
- the lady who is walking the challenge, doing her absolute best with her walking stick

If these wonderful people can push through and find motivation, I need to bloody well just get on with it.

It is a privilege to have a body that can do these things, and to have the choice as to whether we get out the door or not.

The reminder that whilst very rare, Parkinson's cases can be genetic, so my own reality might be very different one day and we should not take health for granted.

So I wrestled the bra, chucked my hoody on, grabbed my old battered running watch and off I went for my plod. Hoping for a 12:30 or less, and coming in at circa 11:33.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk 🙏🏻

3 miles in and blown away by all the donations!

Wednesday 12th Mar
Today's mile was a bit tough after netball training last night as I had achey legs but I got it done as soon as I got home from a day in the office 💪🏻
Overwhelmed with all the support I've had so far, the donations are definitely motivating me to get out and get it done, thank you so much everyone!

Thank you to my sponsors
