Running for a Cure: My Half-Marathon Journey for Parkinson's UK

Friday 8th Nov

It’s been a few years since I last ran a half-marathon. Health issues put my running on pause, but this year, I’m determined to lace up my trainers and run again for the cause that’s very close to my heart: raising funds for Parkinson’s UK.

As many of you know, my mum was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over 23 years ago, and in the last two years, she’s also developed Parkinson's dementia. Over the years, the treatments available for Parkinson’s disease have made a profound difference in her quality of life, yet it’s still not enough. We still need a cure. Research has come so far, but Parkinson’s remains a complex disease, affecting movement, memory, and daily independence. I want to see a day when no one has to experience these struggles.

Though I’m not exactly a graceful runner these days, I’m grateful that I still have the ability to get out there. Something I will never take for granted when I see daily the mobility challenges mum has.  Running may not be easy, but it feels like the best way to honour my mum’s resilience and give back to the research that’s helped us as a family so far. So, I’m embracing the challenge, grateful for every step I can take and every pound I can raise.

Your support—big or small—means the world. By donating, you’ll be funding vital research and helping us get closer to a future without Parkinson’s. Please join me in this journey. Let’s make every mile count!
