Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson's to help fund specialist Parkinson’s care to thousands more people who urgently need it.  I am hoping to walk 90 miles with my dog Duchess during the month of October in memory of my brother Paul who died from Parkinson's at age 64 in 2020. Donations to this page go directly to Parkinsons Uk

My updates

Windy walk today

Sunday 5th Oct
Have managed to walk over 26 miles since day one on Wednesday.   My brother Paul in whose memory I am doing this walked his springer spaniels for 2 hours each day until he became too ill with Parkinson's.    I was so proud of what he achieved working for Hampshire Fire and Rescue as part of their Urban Search and Rescue (USAR)

Warm wet walks in aid of Parkinsons

Saturday 4th Oct
Just under 6 miles walked today and taking its toll on my legs. Set a target of walking 20 miles before Sunday.  My lovely dog plodding along with me in not very pleasant weather.   More than met my target of raising £90 but hoping for more sponsorship to help Parkinson's continue their research and support those people diagnosed with it

End off day one

Thursday 2nd Oct
We walked 6.8miles today

Day one

Thursday 2nd Oct
Walked just under 7 miles today despite being unwell and testing positive for COVID but wanted to make the most of the fine weather. Just over 83 miles to go a bit daunting.  Dutch has enjoyed plenty of sniffs so not the fastest of walks.   All for a very good cause

Parkinson's Challenge

Monday 29th Sep
Dutch and I have walked over 90 miles this month in preparation for the real thing starting on Wednesday.  I plan to get as many miles under my belt on dry days so we can walk less when it is wet.  When walking I remember my brother Paul  who was 9 years younger than me and lost his life to Parkinson's with lewy bodies.

Parkinson's Challenge

Tuesday 23rd Sep
Thank you for all your support.  Dutch and I will be up for the challenge next week having walked many miles in readiness.   We are having a dancing break this week which reminds me of how the power of dance helps people suffering with Parkinson's.   A few years ago the dance studio undertook a trial for Parkinson's sufferers and I partnered some of them.   I was amazed at how good they were and the joy it gave them.

Getting ready

Friday 19th Sep
Explored a number of different walks ready for the challenge.  I enjoy walking but Dutch not so much preferring the comfort of 4 wheels.    I keep telling her that it is for a good cause when I get her out of her bed for our early morning walk.   She will get a break next week as she is staying with my sister as we are going away for a few days ready to start the challenge on the 1st October

Pre challenge walks

Sunday 14th Sep
A bit under the weather this week so only managed 24 miles in very mixed weather.   Thinking of my brother Paul, my friend Paula my badminton partner for many years and my daughter's mother in law Diane who all died from Parkinson's.   This cause has touched my heart and any money I can raise will help in a tiny way for the continuing research into Parkinsons.

October challenge

Saturday 6th Sep
Just under 28 miles walked over the last 7 days as have been recording the distance of the various walks I do with Duchess (I call her Dutch). I take her out 3 times a day not the fastest of walks as she enjoys sniffs on route.  Good practice for October

Back home wet
