Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Parkinson’s is a complex brain condition that has no cure and gets worse over time. It has more than 40 symptoms, from tremor and pain to anxiety. And Parkinson's is on the rise. Someone is diagnosed every 20 minutes in the UK today. By 2050, the number of people with Parkinson’s worldwide will double to 25 million.

Parkinson’s UK is the charity that’s here to support every Parkinson’s journey, every step of the way. Wherever you’re from, whatever you need.

From searching for a cure and campaigning for better health and care, to funding research into groundbreaking new treatments and running life-changing support services. It’s all driven by one mission: improving life with Parkinson’s.

Why am I doing this?

I often ask this question when I run but in this case I have an answer. 

Parkinson’s is a cruel disease which gets worse as time goes on. We witnessed first hand its debilitating and life limiting effect on Mum for the last 20 years of her life and know of so many other people who have suffered much more severely with it. It was a major factor in Mum not being able to have further treatment against the cancer which took her too. 

I’m attempting to run the Cardiff Half in memory of dear Mum and to raise money to support those currently suffering this awful disease for which I hope and pray a cure will be soon be found. 

When I say attempting to run, I mean it. My training has been neither consistent or good since my name was successful in the ballot last year so any support you can give will really help motivate me as I drag myself around the course! 

I’ll let you know my race number when I know it so anyone in Cardiff on the day can cheer me on!
