Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

In 2027, I’ll be running the London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK. It’s going to be a big challenge given how little I’ve exercised since leaving university, but it’s one I’m really looking forward to. Hopefully, it will also raise lots of money and awareness for a cause that means a lot to me.

Six years ago, Parkinson’s disease was something I knew very little about. That changed in 2020 when my grandad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and, over time, Lewy body dementia. What I found hardest was seeing how quickly the condition progressed, how his personality and behaviours changed, and the impact it had on my family. He sadly passed away in December 2024 and running the London Marathon feels like a fitting way to remember him.

My grandad loved sport and some of my favourite memories are of us going to watch the cricket and golf together. I’m sure he would have loved cheering me on around London, although I suspect he’d have had a few comments about my pace!

Having experienced first-hand how important support is, not just for people living with Parkinson’s but for the families and loved ones around them, I wanted to raise money for Parkinson’s UK. The charity does vital work supporting those affected by Parkinson’s disease, funding research, and working towards a future where there is a cure.

Thanks again for visiting my page - I’d be incredibly grateful for any donation, however big or small. Every contribution will make a difference and help me get through what is likely to be a rather painful 26.2 miles!

P.S. No, I will not be running in a costume unless I raise over £15k!
