Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson's to help fund specialist Parkinson’s care to make sure no one faces Parkinson’s alone.

Thousands of us are uniting to help people with Parkinson’s, and those who love and care for them, get access to the support they need.

My lovely Dad had Parkinson’s for many years, and he was truly grateful for the support and awareness that Parkinson’s UK provided, so I’d like to do this for him.

Wednesday 14th Oct

Walk 15 - Pendarves

Tuesday 13th Oct
Well… this was less than ideal! Lily hasn’t pulled this much in over a week. She was soooo keen to run around but she seemed absolutely wired even after getting her zoomies out. Not quite the relaxing stroll we imagined!

Wall 14 - Idless woods

Monday 12th Oct
Lily’s favourite walk to date! Neither of us had ever been to Idless before and we met her pup friend there. They chased each other in the stream and in the woods. We had a mixture of on and off the lead for Lily which was great progress! Her recall was better than I expected! We both got soaked through by the heavy rain on this one!

Walk 13 - Penzance

Monday 12th Oct
Lily’s first time going into shops that weren’t pets at home! She was so good! We had a wander around town and down through to Penlee park. She started pulling a lot when we came back on the promenade as she didn’t understand why I didn’t want her leaping off into the sea… but apart from that a good walk!

Walk 12 - Helston lake

Monday 12th Oct
Well… this was stimulating! Lots of people, dogs and of course birds! Lily was pretty good until people started feeding the ducks and swans and then of course she wanted to be part of the action!

Walk 11 - Woodland walk

Monday 12th Oct
We went for a woodland walk near a river that Lily absolutely loved. She made a total bee line for the water even though she was on the lead! I swapped her to a long line for this one so she could splash around!

Walk 10 - Gwithian

Monday 12th Oct
A windy, refreshing walk to get us going before work! Lily loved splashing in the rock pools and meeting other goldens

Walk 9 - Portreath

Thursday 8th Oct
I drove to the right place this time…! We had a sunrise walk down at Portreath. Lily was very excited to be somewhere new and meet new dogs. I definitely need to work on her recall!

Walk 8 - Lelant Saltings

Wednesday 7th Oct
Lily and I had planned to go to St Ives in the evening but life got interesting so I needed somewhere that wasn't too much of a detour. We went down to the path that runs between Lelant and Lelant Saltings. Lily had never been before. Usually that means chaos and a very strong willed pulling doggy, but she was a sweet angel today and listened to me, stopped pulling when I prompted, even without a single treat! Good girl!

Walk 7 - King George's Walk

Wednesday 7th Oct
Lily was slightly confused about going for a walk by the morning moonlight, but I needed to fit this one in before work! So at 6.30 we were walking along the estuary in Hayle. At the moment they have an amazing display of handmade poppies to remember those who died in the 9/11 attacks, as well as all those who were saved by Rick Rescorla, who came from Hayle.

Walk 6 - Hayle Beach

Monday 5th Oct
This was a lovely energetic walk, needed after a day of work! The night was drawing in but the bonus of the beach is the sand reflected what little light there was! Lily’s recall was poop so back on the lead she went!

Walk 5 - Fistral, Newquay

Monday 5th Oct
A disclaimer at this point that I’m posting slightly after when the walks have happened, I didn’t realise the dates wouldn’t match up!

Walk 4 - Trencrom Hill

Monday 5th Oct

Walk 3 - Marazion

Walk 2 - Porthtowan

Walk 4

Monday 5th Oct
Walk 4 was at one of my favourite spots, Trencrom Hill. Lily had never been here before, but back in Covid times I walked up this hill every day as I could get up and back in my lunch break when I worked from home. It’s a beautiful Neolithic hill fort, with Cornish folklore at its heart. It is rumoured that the giant of Trencrom, and the giant of Marazion (walk 3) fought each other by throwing stones, and that is how the two hills came to be.
We both enjoyed exploring this impressive, diverse area.

Walk 3

Sunday 4th Oct
At last, the weekend! It’s sooo much easier to get a decent walk in when my life isn’t balancing work hours and the sun (and lack of!)
Walk 3 was down at Marazion, which I love. Lily seemed surprised at the an amount of seaweeed which had clumped itself along the shoreline. She enjoyed sniffing it and thankfully didn’t try to chew too much of it!
And true to her golden nature, she absolutely loved chasing after birds. Not my favourite though!
Another win for this walk was that she did very briefly swim in the river. She loves a paddle but not a swim, but at least I know she can swim if needed!

Walk 2

Sunday 4th Oct
Walk 2 was a trip to Porthtowan. Slightly further afield than I intended - I thought I was going to Portreath, oops!
Still a different walk though!

Lily loved the beach, though had a teenage moment and was far more interested in other dogs than coming back to me, so back on the lead she went.
She enjoyed sniffing and paddling in the rockpools and investigating what the surf club were up to!

Walk 1

Thursday 1st Oct
It’s the 1st October which means today was walk #1!
Today was a bit challenging. Not the walk, that was lovely, but the logistics! Lily woke me nice and early and we were up and raring to go at 6.30am but the sun had other ideas!
A bit of stalling was needed, but we got to Carbis Bay beach for sunrise. Lily loved it! We had the beach mostly to ourselves and saw the golden horizon turn to pale blue as our walk progressed.
Our first walk and first mile down - I’d love to have done more but the tide was coming in, and time to get ready for work was quickly approaching! Thanks for following our journey and for all the donations so far 💙

The challenge

Wednesday 23rd Sep
Hello!
Me and my 4 legged pal Lily will be taking part in this October fundraiser.

Because Lily is only 7 months old we can’t walk for miles on end, so to make this a challenge, we’re going to do 31 different walks this month.
This is going to be especially tough as the nights draw in, so some of these walks may be early morning. An extra challenge for both of us is that Lily’s on-lead walk is sometimes a serious pull in new and exciting places. Wish me luck!

Hope you enjoy following our little journey. 🐾
