Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Why Am I Fundraising for Parkinson's UK?
I'm fundraising for Parkinson's UK because my wonderful Grandma Rosemary was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. So in August I will be running the Stur Half Marathon to hopefully raise a few pennies for this wonderful charity.
Now, if you know my granny, you'll know she's spent most of her life looking after everyone else. She has always, and will always be the rock of our family. She's the sort of person who would drop everything to help us, make sure everyone's fed, give us a lift and somehow still find time to knit something for half the family. I couldn't make it through the winter without wearing one of her legendary 'granny knits' and Freddie's jumpers have been passed around so many times now they probably have some serious stories to tell.
In fact, despite her diagnosis, she's still knitting for us all, even Jack's made it into the A-team receiving a granny knit!
She never asks for anything and hates being the centre of attention, which means she'll probably be absolutely mortified that I've written this. Sorry, Granny.
But after years of her looking after the rest of us, I think it's time for us to look after her.
That's why I'm taking on this challenge and raising money for Parkinson's UK. The charity does incredible work supporting people living with Parkinson's, funding research, and helping families navigate the challenges that come with the condition.
My Grandma has faced her diagnosis with the same strength, humour, and stubbornness she's always had. She's still always at the end of the phone for a jolly natter (or usually to give me cooking advice) and still always looking out for all of us.
So I'm running for Grandma Rosemary.
I'm running for all the knitted jumpers, cups of tea, words of wisdom, bowls of soup, cornflake cakes and the countless times she's put everyone else first.
If you'd like to support me, and more importantly support people living with Parkinson's, I'd be incredibly grateful for any donation.
Let's raise some money for a brilliant cause, help support people affected by Parkinson's, and maybe convince Rosemary that for once it's okay to let other people fuss over her. (unlikely!)
This ones for you Grandma x
