Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Before 2013 I was aware of Parkinson’s but was fairly ignorant and thought it was only a disease for old people, and those with it displayed involuntary tremors.
Then my friend Pete was diagnosed with Parkinson’s - he was in his 40's.
Since then, I have learnt a lot. Not everyone has tremors. Not everyone is old. There is currently no cure.
It is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. There are over 40 different symptoms. In fact, 153,000 people are living with Parkinson's in the UK, and every hour 2 more people in the UK alone are diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
I am proud to be supporting Parkinson’s UK by raising funds for their research and support of people with Parkinson's. I will be completing the Great North Run, one of the world’s biggest half marathons with 60,000 participants, in September 2024.
Those who know me will be aware I do not have a classic runner’s physique. However I do have huge determination, alongside an ability to absorb plenty of type 2 fun for the right cause. Any support you can give will give me inspiration to keep going over the iconic Tyne Bridge, up the John Reid Road and on to the seafront.
Together we can find a cure not only for my friend Pete, but also for the 153,000 others living with Parkinson’s in the UK.
Thank you!
