Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
On 13 September 2026, I’ll be taking on the Great North Run — one of the biggest and most iconic half marathons in the world — to raise vital funds for Parkinson’s UK.
Running has always been a huge part of my life. Whether it’s a Saturday morning parkrun, a Jog Scotland session, or simply the friendships and social side that come with the sport, I’ve loved the community that running creates. I wanted to combine that passion with something incredibly close to my heart: supporting my grandma, Elizabeth “Liz” Hanratty, who lives with Parkinson’s.
Seeing the impact this condition can have on people and their families has made me determined to do my bit to help. Parkinson’s UK provides essential support, advice and information to those living with Parkinson’s, as well as funding research to help improve the lives of everyone affected by the condition.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference and help Parkinson’s UK nurses continue providing much-needed support to people and families facing the challenges of Parkinson’s.
Thank you so much for your support — it means a lot to me, my family, and especially my Grandma Liz.

Grateful for the Opportunity
Wednesday 5th AugAs race day approaches, I’ve been reflecting on just how grateful I am to have secured a place in this year’s Great North Run.
Back in mid-July, I was slightly overwhelmed yet absolutely buzzing to cross the finish line at the inaugural Aberdeen Half Marathon, with thousands of spectators lining the route and cheering everyone on. It was an incredible experience in my home city and one I’ll always cherish — especially running back towards Duthie Park, a place I regularly visited with my family growing up.
However, the Great North Run has always felt like something on another level; something I’d only ever really imagined watching on TV or perhaps experiencing as a spectator.
I’ve entered the ballot so many times over the years, so finally getting a place this time feels really special. To have the opportunity to take part in one of the world’s biggest half marathons while raising money for a charity so close to my heart makes this even more meaningful.
This will be the first time since perhaps my school days that I’ve taken on a challenge like this specifically to raise money for charity, and I’m incredibly proud to be doing it for Parkinson’s UK in support of my Grandma Liz.
I know how proud my family and friends are of the journey I’ve been on with running, and it means so much to have them behind me as I take on this challenge. From early morning parkruns and weekly Jog Scotland sessions to building up towards events like this, it’s been amazing to share so many memories with great people along the way.
I can’t wait to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy every moment and hopefully make Grandma Liz, my family and everyone who has supported me proud on race day.
Now it’s time to put the work in over the next five weeks and hopefully arrive on the start line in the best possible shape! 👀
