Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Firstly, can I just say thank you for clicking on this page and taking the time to read this.
Anyone who knows me knows I've made some questionable life choices over the years. Apparently, voluntarily running 26 miles has now joined that list.
So, let's get into it. Why do I want to raise money, and why do I want to run a marathon?
If I'm honest, there are probably a hundred different reasons. Like many people, I often find myself looking at the world and feeling overwhelmed by the constant stream of bad news, uncertainty, and challenges that seem to surround us. Running for me will become an escape from that noise. It will give me something positive to focus on, a goal to work towards, and a reminder that progress is made one step at a time.
The marathon itself represents something bigger than just running, to me It's a chance to be part of something larger than myself. It's an opportunity to challenge my limits, improve my fitness, and prove that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when they commit to a goal, especially when many people are quick to say "you can't do that".
But the real reason I'm here isn't the running.
Over the last few years, those dearest to me have seen first-hand the impact that a Parkinson's diagnosis can have. My mother-in-law is facing another one of life's big battles with her Parkinson's progressing faster than anyone would want or expect. This is my opportunity to try and be a glimmer of light and a little less helpless throughout her diagnosis.
This fundraiser is for her.
It's also for my partner, who has had to watch his mum face challenges that no family should have to face alone, and being an only child at times feels the weight of his moms health lies solely on his shoulders. I want to be that additional pillar of support to him.
It's also for everyone else living with Parkinson's and other life-altering conditions that affect not only the individuals diagnosed but also the families, friends, and loved ones around them. We are not alone in this.
I can't do a lot of things required to help cure Parkinson's but I can run. Well atleast try to. I can try and be the difference we need to see more of in this world.
Knowing that I'm doing this for a cause bigger than me will make the cold early starts or dark late nights worth it.
If I'm fortunate to secure a place I know I'll not only be running with a purpose, I'll be running for awareness, I'll be running to help end Parkinson’s.
If you are able to donate that would be amazing. I'll happily accept messages of encouragement and even a page share also.
Thank you for helping turn 26.2 miles into something that can make a real difference.
Hope to see you at the the finish line
