Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I’m taking part in the 2027 TCS London Marathon for Parkinson’s UK on Saturday 24 April in loving memory of my Nan, Nora.
My Nan lived with Parkinson’s Disease for 15 years until she passed away in 2022.
My Nan was a huge part of my life, and I saw first hand how debilitating the disease could be. But despite the constant muscle pains, tremors and the loss of balance and stability, my Nan was still the most kind, selfless and giving person I have known, continuing to go above and beyond to take care of her children and grandchildren, no matter how difficult it became for her.
Because of ground-breaking research surrounding Parkinson’s Disease, my Nan was nominated as a candidate to trial the DuoDopa Pump in 2018, which enabled a constant stream of medication to be dispensed directly into patient’s bloodstreams to try and improve symptoms long term. The surgery improved my Nan’s quality of life significantly, and undoubtedly gave my family precious time together which may not have been previously possible.
Anything you’re able to give would be very much appreciated, and donations will go directly into innovative research, development of new treatments and support services for those living with Parkinson’s Disease and their families.
