Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Iām walking to help fund specialist Parkinsonās care to thousands more people who urgently need it.
Thousands of us are uniting to help people with Parkinsonās, and those who love and care for them, get access to the support they need
Globally, an estimated 10 to 12 million people live with Parkinson's disease. Estimate 166,000 people in the UK have the condition. It is widely considered the fastest-growing neurological disorder globally.
- In the UK, someone is diagnosed every 20 minutes. The average age of a person living with the disease is 77, and about 59% of those diagnosed are men.Ā
The rise in Parkinson's disease diagnosesāmaking it the world's fastest-growing neurological conditionāis driven by anĀ aging population,Ā increasing awareness, andĀ environmental factors. Experts primarily point to these three interconnected causes:
- The Aging Population:Ā The risk of Parkinson's rises sharply with age. As life expectancies climb, more people are living into the age bracket where the condition most commonly develops (typically early to mid-60s).
I was diagnosed with Parkinsonās when I was going for other tests in 2017 at the age of 55.
I have had lots of help from Parkinson.uk and would like to raise some money for there help.
The need for more doctors and nurses to help people with Parkinsonās is growing.
I hope you can sponsor myself to achieve the 2mile challenge on the 26thĀ July 2026 at Hylands park ChelmsfordĀ
