Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
In September, I’ll be taking on the Great North Run, and this year it means more to me than any challenge I’ve ever done before. I am running in support of Parkinson’s UK, a charity that is incredibly close to my heart.
My granda has been living with Parkinson’s for a few years now. Watching someone you love battle a condition that slowly takes away their independence, confidence, and comfort is heartbreaking. Parkinson’s doesn’t just affect movement – it affects speech, sleep, memory, emotions, and everyday life in ways that many people don’t see. It changes routines, relationships, and the smallest, most ordinary moments.
My granda isn’t just my granda – he’s my best friend. He has always been there for me, supporting me, making me laugh, and showing me what true strength looks like. Seeing him face this illness with courage and dignity inspires me every single day. But I also see the tough days, the frustration, the exhaustion, and the unfairness of it all.
That’s why I’ve chosen to run the GNR for Parkinson’s UK. This charity provides vital support for people living with Parkinson’s and their families, funds life-changing research, and works towards better treatments and, one day, a cure. Every step I take on that 13.1-mile course will be for my granda, and for every family who is going through the same journey.
Running won’t be easy, but neither is living with Parkinson’s. If my run can help raise awareness, funds, and hope, then every mile will be worth it.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me and to my family. You won’t just be supporting my run – you’ll be supporting people like my granda, and helping to make a difference in the fight against Parkinson’s.
Thank you for reading, for your kindness, and for any support you can give. 💙
