Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson’s with Mya 🐾 We’re walking 90 miles in October to fundraise for Parkinson’s UK. Because Parkinson’s has been a huge part of my family’s story. My Granda Kell lived with the condition and faced many of the toughest symptoms – struggling with speech, swallowing and movement. My Granny Kell also heard the words “you’ve got Parkinson’s” after years of caring for him, and I saw how much fear that brought. My great uncle Matt and my grandfather-in-law John also lived with a form of Parkinsonism. For me it’s personal.
I’ve seen first-hand the difference that Parkinson’s Nurses, healthcare specialists, Parkinson’s UK helplines and local support groups make. They don’t just provide care – they give families hope, reassurance, and a reminder that they’re not facing this alone. That’s why I want to raise as much as I can, so thousands more people get that same support.
I also work for Parkinson’s UK, so I know how much incredible work is going into finding better treatments, driving forward research towards a cure, and helping people live well with Parkinson’s today. No one should have to fear the words “you have Parkinson’s”. Together, we can make that happen.
