Why I’m doing this.
Saturday 12th OctHey there! If you know me, you probably know I enjoy running, but usually stick to 5-8k. Recently, I wanted a challenge, so I decided to tackle a half marathon to prove to myself that I can do it.
This is also a meaningful opportunity for me to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, a charity that’s close to my family’s heart. My dad was diagnosed at a relatively young age and has done a lot to support the cause, but he’s less able to do so now. It’s my turn to step up and contribute.
Couple words from my Dad “ I always thought that Parkinson’s was a condition for the elderly until I was diagnosed myself at the age of 42. I’ve since discovered that you can get it at any age, many newly diagnosed are under 50 and some even in their 20’s. It’s a chronic neurological condition where my symptoms will varyby the hour and no two days are the same.
Modern medication means that I am still fairly mobile after 23 years. I consider myself fortunate that my quality of life has been extended, due, in no small part, to available preventative care and research funding by Parkinson’s UK.”
Please donate whatever you can, a little will go a long way.
