Day 5

Thursday 6th Mar

50 miles in 5 days - Day 5

Thursday 6th Mar

CHALLENGE COMPLETED!

The final day of the challenge was like the dark side vs the light, fatigue and aches vs determination and an ever closer finish line.

I’ll round up some stats!

📅 5 days

🏃‍♂️ 5 runs

🛣️ 50 miles

🕰️ 8hrs 52 minutes and 20 seconds running

💰 £732.50 raised (including £132.50 gift aid) to date

I’m immensely thankful of everyone who has donated, I’m currently 8th on the leaderboard of money raised! Friends at Crowborough Athletic football club, FM Conway, old friends and new friends have all contributed so generously, it gave me the determination to get out and complete this challenge!

I haven’t trained much for this, since new year I’ve got back into running, but only had a few weeks since signing up to do this meant ramping things up considerably!

I’m fortunate enough to have great people around me and able bodied enough to do a challenge like this. I hope that the money raised can help someone, somewhere to live the best life they can.

If we all do something small, we can achieve great things.

What’s next? I’ll keep running after a few days off, and take on another challenge later in the year.

Thank you again to everyone for your support and sponsorship 😃

Day 4

Wednesday 5th Mar

50 miles in 5 days - Day 4

Wednesday 5th Mar

Day 4 was all about management. Management of my body, my pace, and the light!

The aches had crept in today!

On a positive note I was pleased that by running in the evening, the drop in temperature made my life easier.

Today’s run was smoother than expected, just plodded on round, music on, head down!

Last one tomorrow!

Day 3

Tuesday 4th Mar

50 miles in 5 days - Day 3

Tuesday 4th Mar

Day 3 was full of surprises, it was my most comfortable yet!

It could be for a number of reasons:

✔️ Good recovery

✔️ Slower pace

✔️ Hitting milestones (over halfway and over marathon distance)

Regardless, it doesn’t matter, the main thing is 30/50 miles are in the bank, and no injuries.

With the milestones achieved, some stats are in order:

🏃‍♂️ Runs: 3

⌚️ Average pace: 10’12” (minutes per mile)

🕰️ Total running time: 5hrs 6 miles 22 seconds

⚖️ Over 4,000 calories burnt per day

💷18th highest fundraiser

💨7th highest distance run to date

Tomorrow I can look forward to my first evening run of the challenge!

Day 2

Tuesday 4th Mar

50 miles in 5 days - Day 2

Tuesday 4th Mar
After getting through day one, I didn’t underestimate day 2. In bed early and refuelled, I managed to get away with not aching too badly, the downside was waking up to a slight bit of knee pain.

After some exercises to help mitigate it I was ready to rock, taking it steady for the first mile before settling in to a relaxed pace. A route change was the order of the day to try and avoid some hills - which either failed or the whole route just felt like it was uphill! Mile 6 saw my legs weighing heavy, but as I hit mile 9 I picked up the pace to get home.

Nevertheless I got round, not too much slower than day 1. 2 down and 3 to go, with tomorrow’s 5 mile point halfway through the challenge.

Ice packs and recovery the order of the evening, after tomorrow the recovery will get harder, heading to The Valley for Charltons play off push, and then office days Wednesday and Thursday!

First day

Sunday 2nd Mar

50 miles in 5 days - Day 1

Sunday 2nd Mar

Today was day one of my run challenge, after a busy morning I finally got out the door mid afternoon into what felt like a summers day!

After having a few rest days as part of the preparation, I wasn’t used to the heat, which sapped my energy early on, but as I got going I managed to find some pace and rhythm.

The first run was always the double edged sword, with less fatigue but further to go, but it’s done and the focus this evening turns to refuelling, resting and stretching!

I’m really grateful to have smashed through my donation target, but would like to raise as much as possible for Parkinsons UK, the link to donate is below!

Onto tomorrow!
