Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Thanks for looking at my page. I have signed up to do the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 18th April 2027. I will be running it in memory of my lovely uncle, Terry. Uncle Terry was diagnosed with the incredibly cruel disease, Parkinson’s disease when he was just 49. He loved his vintage tractors and would always offer help to anyone in need. He loved watching cricket too. He bravely fought his battle with Parkinson’s for twenty-eight years before finally passing away in November 2023. Parkinson’s is a terrible disease and the prognosis is bleak as there currently is no cure. Not only does Parkinson’s strip the person suffering with it of their life, but it significantly impacts those around the sufferer. My wonderful auntie, Sheila and cousins, Kerry, Jamie and Mark, have all been affected too, along with their families. From watching someone so big and strong be depleted of life, it is incredibly heartbreaking. The courage shown by my Auntie Sheila is remarkable. The constant love and care that she provided to my uncle was unwavering.

So, this is why I am running for Parkinson’s UK. Every single penny helps fund the research to find a cure. If a cure can be found, then countless lives will be saved and improved.

Why the marathon? Well, I have slowly been building up my running over the last couple of years, having started doing the Couch to 5k programme. I’ve done a couple half marathons and now want to challenge myself further. My aim is to raise as much money as I can to help Parkinson’s UK find a cure and support those sufferers and their families in what must be very challenging times.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my page. Every single penny counts and every single moment counts. I’ll keep you posted on how my training is going.
