Why I'm fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m uniting with thousands of others to take part in the Walk for Parkinson’s 100 Mile Challenge to help fund specialist care for people with Parkinson’s.

In the UK, someone is given this life-changing diagnosis every 20 minutes!

Chipping Away: Miles Down, Targets Up!

Thursday 7th May

I’m officially one week into the challenge, and I am starting to find a rhythm!

When I last checked in, I was facing a 4.5-mile deficit. I’ve spent the last few days "chipping away" at that shortfall, and I’m pleased to report that as of yesterday, I’ve whittled it down to exactly 3 miles. It isn’t a sprint to the finish, but a steady, persistent reduction that feels manageable.

My knees and ankles are holding up reasonably well in the circumstances. While they have a few choice words for me whenever I encounter a flight of stairs, on the flat, everything is ticking along nicely!

The Best News?

Thanks to your incredible generosity, I have already hit my initial fundraising goal of £200! Seeing that total climb while I’m out pounding the pavement is the best motivation I could ask for.

Because you’ve been so supportive, I’ve decided to push the boundaries and increase my target to £300. Every extra pound goes directly to Parkinson’s UK, ensuring that specialist care and life-changing research continue to reach those who need it most.

Thank you for being the "oil" that keeps me moving—even when the stairs look a bit daunting!

First contact

Monday 4th May

The challenge goes on and the updates will flow! Thank you for checking back on my progress.

I started this challenge with a very sensible plan to hit 4 miles a day, giving me plenty of wiggle room for those days when life, the weather, or my joints won’t cooperate. Well, the military saying “No plan survives first contact with the enemy", is very apt. 3 days in, and I am officially 4.5 miles behind my target.

But,  whether I call it a slow start or a tactical pause, the support I’ve received, on this page and through other contact, is providing the oil of flexibility to completely shift my gears!

Reading through your messages and seeing the donations come in has been the ultimate "energiser". It’s one thing to set a goal for yourself, but it’s quite another when you see the whole team of people backing you. That collective energy is exactly what I needed to get my ankles moving and my trainers hitting the pavement with a bit more purpose.

This challenge is about more than just a distance on a map; it’s about the vital work Parkinson’s UK does every single day. Knowing that every step I take is helping to fund specialist care and life-changing research makes those "lost" miles feel like a very minor hurdle.

I’m heading out today with a renewed focus and a plan to chip away at that deficit. The "wiggle room" might be reduced, but the determination is well and truly here!

Thank you all for being the wind at my back. Let’s get those miles logged!

1 month, 1 goal, 100 miles!

Friday 1st May
Today is the official start of my Walk 100 Miles in May challenge for Parkinson's UK, and I couldn't be more excited.

Over the next month, I will lace up my walking shoes to clock 100 miles. Why? Because in the UK, someone is diagnosed with Parkinson's every 20 minutes. It's a life-changing condition and I'm walking to ensure that no one has to face it without specialist care and support.

I would love for you to follow along with my progress here. If you are able to donate, every penny goes directly toward improving life for those living with Parkinson's.

Thank you to my sponsors
