Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Walking for Parkinson’s: Marilyn & Richard’s South West Coast Challenge

Hi everyone, and thank you for visiting our page!

I’m Marilyn, and this coming June, I’ll be taking on the South West Coast Ultra Challenge alongside my nephew, Richard. Together, we are tackling the 25km (Half Challenge) to raise vital funds for Parkinson’s UK.

Why We’re Walking

This cause is deeply personal to me. I’ve lived with Parkinson’s for possibly 15 years now, most of that undiagnosed. While I try to stay as active as possible, the reality is that walking has become quite a challenge. Taking on a distance like this isn't just a "stroll by the sea" for me—it’s going to be a significant test.

In Memory of Paul

This journey carries a special weight for our family. Last September, Richard and I completed a fundraising walk in Henley-on-Thames. It was just after the heartbreaking loss of my brother (and Richard’s dad), Paul, who passed away on September 12th.

We are walking this challenge with Paul in our thoughts, motivated by his memory and the desire to help others living with the daily hurdles of Parkinson’s.

How Your Donation Helps

Parkinson’s is the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world, and currently, there is no cure. Your support helps fund:

  • Crucial Research: Searching for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

  • Support Services: Providing nurses and local groups for those navigating the diagnosis.

  • Hope: Reminding the Parkinson's community that they aren't alone.

Thank you so much for your generosity, your encouragement, and for being part of our journey.

Warmly,

Marilyn & Richard
