Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Six years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Parkinson’s is a progressive degenerative condition for which there is currently no cure.

I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson’s to fund Parkinson's UK's groundbreaking research into better treatments and a cure.   Mali and I will be walking 60 miles with many others during October to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and hopefully one day a cure can be found.

Finished 24/10. Loa’s 1st. B’day

Thursday 24th Oct
On the 5th October I read about  the Walkies for Parkinson’s  and thought that Mali and I would enjoy the challenge. First walk was on Monday the 7th in London and today Thursday the 24th we’ve finished our 60 miles.  But that’s not the only thing we are celebrating. 🥳 Today is our gorgeous granddaughter Loa’s first birthday. 🎂   Lots to celebrate
My leg is now shaking a bit, think the tiredness has triggered my dyskinesia.  But it is fairly mild.
What is Dyskinesia? I hear you cry:- Dyskinesia is uncontrolled, involuntary movement that may occur with long-term levodopa use and longer time with Parkinson's.  Dyskinesia can involve one body part, such as an arm or leg, or the entire body. It can look like fidgeting, writhing,  wriggling, head bobbing or body swaying. Dyskinesia tends to occur most often during times when other Parkinson's symptoms, such as tremor, slowness and stiffness, are well controlled
I sway back and forth when I have dyskinesia especially when standing. It’s a weird feeling that I have no control over.
Today’s walk.
We walked from home down Gallowhill Rd, and up the hill towards Stronachie. Then  we decided to walk a bit further up to Tillyrie before heading across to  Milnathort and home.
Today we walked with Ralph, Lloyd’s Cockapoo who’s on his holidays from London. And Mali’s favourite, Aunty Hazel. We actually walked 6.44   miles today so all feeling a bit weary. But very pleased.
Walk is over but you can keep donating until the end of the month to get me to my £3000 target.   Once again,  thank you from the bottom of my heart. Xx

Day 16. 23/10/24

Wednesday 23rd Oct

Penultimate day of walking I think. Just 5 miles to go. It was a beautiful morning looking over the loch from Burleigh sands.   We started at Kirkgate Park walked alongside the loch to Burleigh Sand to Milnathort golf club and home.

It took us a long time to complete as we met so many people who wanted to chat and there were lots of questions about Mali’s bandana.

Day 15. 21/10/2024

Monday 21st Oct
51 miles completed. Storm Ashley hit Scotland yesterday and so we stayed warm and cozy in front of the television and safe from  the high winds and torrential rain.
So this morning we walked twice. One mile at 7.30 and then another five at 10 am. We walked from Gallowhill Road towards Stronachie and crossed to Milnathort for a coffee in Heaven Scent before heading home for a total of 5.82 miles.
Thank you Lindsey, Helen and Maureen for their company. Xx

Day 14

Saturday 19th Oct

Saturday the 19, Mali and I walked from Kirkgate Park, where she had a good chase game with her doggie pals, Teddy and Kenneth

Unfortunately the lead had to go on through as we walked through the woods and alongside the golf course and the Loch.  Now the geese (thousands of them) are back in the area Mali can only think of one thing-sniffing and chasing geese!

Three miles logged today. 15 to go.

Day 13

Thursday 17th Oct

Day    17/10

No walk yesterday as it was raining heavily.  So made up for it today with an early morning walk with Mali, then  a longer walk when friends joined us. Thank you Linds, Hazel and Helen for your company.

Total for the two walks is 5.36.

I don’t enjoy winter mornings,  currently it’s  dark until about 7.45 and it’s only October!

Day 12. 15/10/24

Tuesday 15th Oct
Firstly I’d like to say Thank you to everyone who had  made a donation. I am stunned how much support I’ve received, be it donations or friends keeping me company on my walks. Thank you so much. I will send individual thanks eventually.
The walk today took us from home to Sunny Park woods to the golf course, along the edge of the loch, Burleigh Castle and Heaven Scent for a cuppa before the last leg.
And we arrived home to the postie delivering Mali’s Parkinson’s Uk bandana.  Photos to follow.   4.56 miles completed today.

Day 11.

Monday 14th Oct

Wrapping up warmly this morning as it’s -3 🥶

First a quick drive to Kirkgate Park for Mali to enjoy a run chasing her ball. Then as I was feeling fit walked the road towards Stronachie  across towards Milnathort and home. A very satisfying 6 miles chipped off my target.   Did stop in Heaven Scent in Milnathort for a cinnamon bun for my brunch.   Thought I deserved it. 😘

Day 10 13/10/24

Monday 14th Oct

I’ve only just noticed that on the Parkinson’s website for the walk is a fundraising league table and thanks to our amazing friends and family I’m in second place on the list!  Thank you so much.  If you haven’t yet donated, then PLEASE do. Help fund the research into better treatments and a cure for the fastest growing neurological condition. 🙏🙏

I’m now back in Kinross and the walks continue.

Sunday was day 10 and Mali and I had a lovely walk with Huw,  Hazel and Brian along the golf course to the Loch. Ticked off another 3 miles.

Oops forgot to upload it!

Day 9. 12/10/24

Saturday 12th Oct
No long walk today as I’m on the train back to Scotland.   Though just walking to Alexandra Palace station and through Kings Cross means I’ve walked a mile.
It’s a long and boring journey. Work on the rails means it’s 90 minutes longer than usual.
It did liven up a bi at Doncaster when 3 beauty queens and their entourage got on, were very noisy, got quickly into the booze and thankfully got off in York!!  It’s freezing cold and they were wearing bare backed evening gowns and a sash.   Unexpected!!

11 October. Day 8

Friday 11th Oct
A beautiful sunny day in London and my walk today is around the lovely Hampstead Heath.
Great views again across London and I remembered this time to take photos , though my walking companion exercised her right to veto most of the photos of her 🤣.
4 miles logged on the chart today bringing me up to 22.   38 to go.
Thanks Deb for taking me to Hampstead Heath and for walking with me.

Day 7 with Ralph

Thursday 10th Oct
North London today and a walk around Alexandra Palace. Great views and a different walking partner and I forgot to take a photo of the view of London from the palace!!
Three miles walked today. Chipping away at the 60.
Thanks for the donations. I’m so grateful to you all. Xx

Day 7

Wednesday 9th Oct
North London today and a walk around Alexandra Palace. Great views and a different walking partner but I forgot to take a photo of the view of London from the Palace
Three miles walked. Chipping away at the 60.
Thanks for the donations. I’m so grateful to you all. Xx

Please donate.

Tuesday 8th Oct
Did you know that 2 people every hour are diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the Uk!!
1 in 37 people who are alive today will be diagnosed in their lifetime.
I do think that there are worse things to be diagnosed with than Parkinson’s but,  you really don’t want this condition so please help find better treatments or even a cure.
Please donate.

Day 3

Monday 7th Oct
Day 3.
A walk in South London  this morning.   Currently walking through Blythe Hill Fisds.  Great view over London. Took a photo but can’t upload it. 🤷‍♂️. Aiming for 4 miles today.  🤞🏼. Thank goodness for Parkinson’s meds. I don’t have a tremor, I have gait problems.  Without the meds I would probably be needing sticks to walk.   Please donate so that life changing treatments (or even a cure) can be found. 😘

Thank you to my sponsors
