Why I'm fundraising for Parkinson's UK
Since we lost my grandad in October 2024, I have wanted to do something to raise money for Parkinson’s because as a family we saw Parkinson’s disease slowly take away every part of my grandads life, including his independence, mobility and outgoing, active self. Many people think Parkinson’s disease is just tremors and shaking, and whilst this is usually the first sign, there is so much more including your body freezing, speech and swallowing issues and cognitive impairment. We saw my grandad eventually become trapped in his body whereby he couldn’t do the simplest of things such as lifting a drink to his mouth or telling us what he wanted. My grandad was one of the strongest people I know, he was a fighter until the end and I want to do this challenge in memory of him and to raise awareness of this cruel disease. I’m very new to my running journey but will be challenging myself to running 50 miles in 50 days starting on March 1st. Any donations or shares would be greatly appreciated.
