Walkies for Parkinson's 2025

Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson's to help fund specialist Parkinson’s care to thousands more people who urgently need it.

Thousands of us are uniting to help people with Parkinson’s, and those who love and care for them, get access to the support they need.

My motivation

Tuesday 30th Sep

This October, I’ll be walking 90 miles as part of Walkies for Parkinson’s – and I’m doing it for someone incredibly important to me: my mum.

My mum was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at just 52 years old. Too often, Parkinson’s is seen as something that only affects the elderly, but that simply isn’t true. It can affect people much younger, at a stage in life when they are still working, caring for families, and living busy lives.

Parkinson’s is also a condition that isn’t always visible. People may not notice the daily challenges, the fatigue, or the symptoms that can’t be seen. That’s why I feel it doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves as a disability – but the impact is real, not just for those living with Parkinson’s, but for their loved ones too.

By taking on this challenge, I want to do two things:

  1. Raise awareness – so more people understand that Parkinson’s isn’t just about what you can see, and it doesn’t only affect the elderly.

  2. Raise funds – so that vital research and support can continue, helping people like my mum live fuller, supported lives.

If you’re able to, I’d be so grateful if you could support me. Whether that’s through a donation, sharing my story, or simply learning a little more about Parkinson’s, it all makes a difference.

Together, we can help shine a light on this misunderstood condition and move one step closer to better treatments – and one day, a cure.

And of course, I won’t be walking alone – my dog Gus will be trotting all 90 miles with me. He’s very excited about this challenge.
