Done it!

Saturday 31st May
I am delighted to say I managed 150miles in May and raised (including gift aid) over £1000. Thanks to all my friends and family for their support. Here's the final Parkinson's poem --loss of sense of smell and poor quality sleep are some of the possible early signs of the condition.

THIEF

You stole from me

Little things at first

Barely noticed

Hardly missed

Chanel Mademoiselle

Freshly sliced lemons

Longiflorum lilies

Deep refreshing sleep

Laughter

Joy

Now you have taken my breath

My voice

My song

I am an artist

without Cadmium yellow

Vermilion, Cerulean blue

A writer without a pen

or language itself

Cruel thief

You have stolen me

As of 27th May--135 miles!

Wednesday 28th May
Still aiming for 150 miles. It's Wednesday Parkinson Poem day. Night terrors or nightmares that seem very real are one of the possible symptoms of Parkinson's.

NIGHT TERRORS

Through slitted eyelids

I see his shadow on my bedroom wall

knife in hand

The blankets trapping me

I thrash like a caged tigeress

Roar out

He will not harm my sons

while I draw breath

Gradually the dream fades

I am lying in bed

My boys are safe

The faceless man is gone.

Tomorrow night he will try something else.

Poem

Wednesday 21st May
I take medication every 3 hours from 7.30am to 7.30 pm to control my symptoms. This poem is about how that affects my day.

TIME

My days are carved into 3 hour segments

as if a giant pendulum

swinging slowly

slices time

Clock weight a scimitar

I would walk 100 miles!

Wednesday 21st May
Made it. That's 100 miles done, but I'll keep going and see what I can manage over the month. Huge thank you to all my supporters. Including gift aid I have raised over £1000  for Parkinson's Uk.

Craigrossie Climbed!

Monday 19th May
Managed to climb Craigrossie this morning. It didn't count as very many steps but was the equivalent of climbing an 88 storey building! Have done 10.1 miles in last 48hrs. That takes me to 95.1 miles so far. Should complete my 100 miles tomorrow. Thanks to my sister Ruth for coming with me on the hill climb this morning.

Dance steps!

Sunday 18th May
7 am At a Ceilidh last night and put on a lot of steps. So far Ithis month I have walked 85 miles. I am going to complete this challenge!  I've decided to keep going and see what I can achieve in the month. Weather's looking good for tackling Craigrossie tomorrow--wee bit cloud cover will help. If any of my kind sponsors want to come along let me know! The view from the top is great.

Two thirds

Thursday 15th May
Thank you to all the kind people who have sponsored me so far. That's two thirds done. I will be at the ceilidh at the Aytoun Hall on Saturday and hope to put on a few miles that way!

Weekly poem

Wednesday 14th May

GRIEF

I grieved for the future I’d planned

before Parkinson’s swallowed me whole

Cried for the things I’d never do

Trapped in the belly of the whale

Broken I lay in oily blackness

til spat out on a strange silent shore

Reassmbled, repurposed I rose

Created from sorrow and despair

Reached 50 miles

Saturday 10th May
That's me half way towards my goal. The good weather has been a real bonus.

Eating up the miles

Friday 9th May
8.5 miles today! That's 44.4 miles in total so far--almost half way.

First 7 days

Thursday 8th May
That's 32 miles done over the first week so I'm easily on target. I haven't climbed Craigrossie for a long time so shall add that in to my challenge. The views from the top are wonderful. It is also a wee reminder to me to "Carpe Diem" because you never know what Parkinson's is suddenly going to take away from you. Perhaps we should all seize the day! This is me 12 years ago at the top of Craigroaaise.

Weekly poem

Wednesday 7th May

Parkinson's

I am fading away

Like the image on an old polaroid photograph

Alpha-synuclein slowly suffocating brain-cells

So I live in the moment

Unexpectedly finding

fireflies in the dark

On target

Wednesday 7th May
Hi everyone. Thanks for your generous support. I'm on target for completing the 100 miles in May. The weather so far has been a real plus. I will keep on all month even when I pass the 100 miles--who know's what I can manage!
