Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK
I’m taking on the Great North Run to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, a charity that supports the 153,000 people in the UK living with Parkinson’s and funds vital research into better treatments and, one day, a cure. Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that can affect movement, speech, sleep, mental health, and so much more – not only changing the lives of those diagnosed but also the lives of the families who care for them.
I am absolutely not a runner – in fact I’ve always said I hate running – so this half marathon will be a huge personal challenge. I’m doing it in memory of my grandma, who died from complications caused by Parkinson’s while I was living abroad during university. I never got the chance to say goodbye, and that has stayed with me ever since.
By pushing myself to the start line (and hopefully the finish line!), I want to raise as much as I can to help others facing this cruel disease and to support the families who go through it alongside them. Any donation, big or small, would mean the world to me and to everyone affected by Parkinson’s. Thank you so much for your support 💙.
