Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

Tuesday 12th AugA few weeks ago, I was happily training for a half marathon. Then, life threw me a curveball and an incredible opportunity. I’ve been given a charity place in the 2026 London Marathon with Parkinson’s UK, and I couldn’t be more honoured if a little daunted!
I only started running in March this year. For years, I’d told myself that my joints and bad back, bilateral Achilles tendonopathy were reason enough not to try anymore but eventually, I realised they were just becoming another excuse. I’ve gone from struggling to run a 5k without stopping to signing up for one of the biggest races in the world.
Importantly, I’m running in memory of my Uncle Jim, who passed away in 2023, and for my wonderful Dad, who is living with Parkinson’s. My husband’s uncle also has the condition and we have friends affected too, so for us, Parkinson’s isn’t just a word on a leaflet - it’s part of our family’s story.
Parkinson’s UK does incredible work to support people living with Parkinson’s and to fund vital research into better treatments and, one day, a cure. Every pound raised helps bring that future closer.
I’ll be sharing updates here about my training - the highs, the lows, and the moments I wonder what on earth I’ve signed up for! I’m hugely grateful for every bit of support, whether that’s a donation, a share of my page, or even just a word of encouragement when I’m knee-deep in miles and blisters.
