Why I am fundraising for Parkinson's UK

I’m taking part in Walkies for Parkinson's  in October, I will be aiming to walk in excess of 90 miles to help fund specialist Parkinson’s care to thousands more people who urgently need it.

unfortunately I lost my Grandad in 2024 to this unrelenting disease he was helped by this charity and I want to make sure that helps is available to others. I do this challenge every year and would really appreciate your support.

Thousands of us are uniting to help people with Parkinson’s, and those who love and care for them, get access to the support they need.

walking for my Grandad

Wednesday 1st Oct
Today, I started my walk. Not a casual stroll, but a walk with a purpose: to remember my Grandad, whom I lost to Parkinson’s in June 2024. A year has passed since his steady steps faded, leaving a quiet void. Watching Parkinson's steal his mobility and strength was cruel, yet he faced it with immense bravery.
This walk is my way of honouring his journey and reclaiming some of the movement the disease took from him. With every step, I feel a connection to him, as if we are walking together again. This is more than a tribute; it's a chance to celebrate the kind, wonderful Grandad I knew and loved, and to raise awareness for a disease that affects so many families.
For anyone who has lost a loved one to Parkinson's, and for the people living with someone who has the disease, I encourage you to find your own way to remember and support. Whether it's a walk, a donation, or a quiet moment of reflection, keeping their memory alive is a powerful way to heal. It also honours the bravery of everyone navigating this difficult path.
